My guess is a transfer case to compliment the toyzuki motor plate.... or simular set up.

Do I get a cookie ? If so, I like my cookies to look like a transfer case

Whats the tooth count on those gears ?

Congratulations on the new house...

The truck is looking pretty nasty.

Way to put that torch to good use. Is the kinking in the Tubing a characteristic of bending the Stainless? It looks like you have a nice bender as seen in the back ground of one of the pics.

You would get a cookie if you where right - but you're not. Good guess though.

The gears I'm using are the 48t the 42t and the 12t (fourth, third and small third).

Thanks! I think the kinking is because it's very thin wall tube, not necessarily because it's stainless (although it is softer). My bender works but it's really designed for solid rod- although I will say the pictures make the kinks look more pronounced than they actually are. I decided early on to just not worry about it after I tried a few methods to keep it from kinking as I have the luxury of a cage failure not killing someone unlike in the 1:1 world . I think a good hand bender would probably do a better job but I'm not very good at using those.

Thank you! I wanted to finish the front two today but I think everyone in KY is home sick with allergies.

Little update - got the front shock mounts on finally.

Then tragedy struck.

The passengers side was just a smidge taller than the drivers side. It wasn't enough for me to notice untill I put in the first cross member and noticed it was out-of-wack.

So I removed it - trimmed it down and made it too short. Now I get to build another one. Two steps forward and one step back is better than the other way around I guess.

Looks great Jon! Getting everything perfect and square is the hardest thing about these custom builds. All your tube work looks awesome though. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Tim! Means a lot coming from you - the stainless was inspired by your builds. I almost have the Ranger Rover back to roller status btw- It's going to be my Class1 for next year.

Well the damned internal cage is finnally mostly in.

I may never build another one as this has taken more time than the rest of the build

I need to have the rest of the frame done and ready for media blasting by next weekend.

Melded a new front bumper.

Here's a little update.

Did some work on the back end - used a MadDogRc winch plate so I can have a rear winch. I trimmed 13mm off the back of the frame; I have plenty of lenghth on the frame so it gives me a little bit better departure angle. Also added the roll bar supports.

Here's a bigger update and the answer to the berg gears mystery.

It's a ClassiCutCustoms Bulldog shafty transmission (Bulldog Shafty Tranny) and it's itty-freaking-bitty. I choose this transmission for a number of reasons. It's small and totally self contained so I have more room for an interior and no exposed spur gear. I also liked it over the other shafty transmissions because it uses berg gears (IMO stronger than XR gears). My only real concern is if it will hold up to a heavier scaler - but I think the smaller, less grippy tires will help a lot.

Small update - sorry for the slow progress, I've been focusing on getting my other rig ready for AxialFest.

Today I built a servo winch mount - it takes a surprising amount of work.

Nice tight fit.

Found this from your thread on the torch system. I'm new to RC but getting in deep fast! Very inspiring, amazing work. Looks like will need to be buying some toys, I mean tools soon . Very cool build. I've seen it before but how was the frame made? Is it just tubing cut in half?

Thank you! The torch has definatel been a big help. The frame rails are Axial SCX-10 frame stuff; I just stripped the paint off them. You can also bend the rails and cut it in half with a band saw though.

Hoping to make some more progress this week - suddenly its 93* with 95% humidty here.

That's perfect weather for brazing with a cold one sitting next to you You know, just in case there is a sudden onset of parchment, or maybe a thirsty marmot running around.

Onset of parchment....that is good!

There is nothing worse than a parched fabricator that is for damn sure
