Class 2 toyota "clone"

I started off like my other truck with some 1/2" square tubing bent to shape.



Now it says in the title that this is a clone but there will actually be some deviations to my original truck.

First is the drive train a Dinky tranny\T-case set-up. The skid is designed to fit in an SCX10 chassis so i drilled the rails to match.



then split them



The problem with the Dinky skid is that it is designed to go inside the rails. i used a stock SCX10 skid in my bronco and hated that i had to notch out the rails to remove the skid. so this time i added plates to the inside to allow the skid to be removed easily once the who chassis is complete.



the fit was good so i burned them in.



I'm out of practice with the TIG, it didn't turn out as good as i hoped. when i filed it down it wasn't perfectly smooth. i'll take care of that later.



The skid bolted up well



next i drilled some holes for the tranny, mounted it, and bolted up a spare set of axles using stock Dingo rear links and custom fronts.







the tranny is nice and lever with the frame



the problem with the tranny is that there is only one mounting hole on either side. Now the bosses that slid into the frame are angled but are not a tight fit at all and it cannot hold up to the leverage of the motor

Next i wanted to tackle the front linkage, wanted to be able to run either a 3 link or 4 link so since i had a Hands Brothers 3 link already on the axle i made the single upper.



Then i threw some wheels and tires on and got it to an approximate ride height.



then i tacked a tab in place for the panhard bar.



fits pretty good



Now to tackle the tranny. i made up some tabs to add another mounting location.





then tacked them to the chassis



being that there is no other mounting options i simply drilled and tapped some new ones.



now it's plenty secure



Oh and one last thing. i did a quick mock-up of the body







And if you are wondering, Yes it will have a drop bed and yes it will be all aluminum like my class 2 truck!

Very nice! Looks like yet another quality build. How do you go about splitting your tubing for the frame? Bandsaw? Cutoff wheel? Butter knife?

It was time to get this thing standing on it's own. i starting by bending up some hoops out of stainless tube.



Then for the rear i made some plates. since the tube is going to be stainless i'm going to try to make all the other parts stainless as well.



then i tried something diferent and attempted to braze the plate in without tacking it first but it was an epic failure as you can see with the one on the left.



If you are wondering why the tube was cut unevenly this is why. with the truck having a full drop bed but running a 4 link i needed a place to put the hoops that wouldn't take away from the bed floor. so i decided to lean them forward to try to keep the tires out of the shocks.





And to keep the hoops under the fenders



Next it was time for the front. I started by making some tabs for the shock



Then the hoops were trimmed and the the tabs were mounted along with the lower mounts



then they were tacked to the chassis.



The last thing i did was add a rear cross bar.



It's finally standing on it's own

then with the bed in place

Well i have been working on this but i just haven't had time to post progress. So here is an update.

Once i had the chassis situated, i decided to lock the front in place with a cross member.



Fit is nice and should be real clean once i braze it.



The i moved onto the rear. i decided to give it a better departure angle and pie cut the chassis.





Then TIG'd it shut



and ground it smooth.



then i needed to make the bed mounts. i bent up some sheet metal first



Then tacked then in place



for the front mount i used some sliced square tube and added the serial number to make it official



And tacked it in





now it was time for some fresh panels starting with the bed floor and inner fenders



then i made some supports and fastened them to the frame



and glued the bed floor down



Now with a clean bed floor for reference i was able to start on the cab. I formed the roof, cab back and B pillars and glued them together



then positioned it on the chassis



then i was able to make the sliders



and add them to the chassis



Next came the rear hoop



it was added as well.



test fit the cab skin again and all looks good



then i added the tubes in front to secure the sliders



finally i bent up the rear bumper



and tacked it to the chassis



keeping it in the same plane as the cut to the frame rails.

well since he was unable to post more progress on my truck due to not being a vendor he updated me with pics of all the progress, its finally finished and i received it in the mail yesterday. Here are a few of the pics he sent me as updates and in the next post i will post pics of its progress since i got it yesterday....

After 7 months of anticipation it arrived yesterday and im speechless! I even got a complete spare body set.... I decided to go a stockish color for this first body and i will do some black yota stripes.

I also think for the moment im gonna use these 1.55's untill i can find some 1.7 iroks, i have some new 1.9 tsl's i planned to run but at the ride height i want they may be a bit big and will mangle the fenders

For now its gettin axial axles i have the DDK setup in it with all Robinson internals, HH 35t torquemaster, 90mm icons, MMp or brxl (not sure yet), and i just ordered the winch and the grill

I also started messin with interior, i had this dash out of a mustang (i know its not scale to the yota but its gonna work for now) I modified it some to fit and changed out the steering wheel and added a grab bar, now gotta make seat mounts for the buckets and i will be running thses two jokers in here lol
