Default Mods to the High Lift

After meeting up with DTP, Aipohaku and some of the other locals last Sunday my HL needed some reworking. I already had the servo saver and HS-635 for steering but didn't get to put it in. That day I ended up breaking the upper plastic arm that connects to the servo via the long pushrod. Took the arm from the rear steering setup and put in servo and servo saver. Also did the body lift to get ready for 2.2 beadlocks and geo's.

Sorry, not sure why the pics are coming out so small. They are 1600x1200 at Putfile but gets shrunk linking to here.
Today ran the HL and lost signal. It kept going and got itself stuck under a car. I think it wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't do the body lift. Scuffed up the body even more and this time broke the lower steering plastic arm and the stationary arm for the steering servo mount. I'm fresh out of the plastic arms so now moving the steering servo to the front was mandatory. I moved the shift servo over and used small spacers to clear the servo arm from the chassis. I used 3/16" (I think) collars as spacers to clear the servo saver from the chassis. I'm not sure if it's just me but I just about broke every plastic piece within the steering setup. Even my servo mount rails for the shift servo is broken but it's screwed between the frame so it can't move and fall apart. To finish the steering, I used 4-40 all thread and just connected the right side ball joint to the servo saver.

Steering servo mounted up front.

Sup drksyd, It was good meeting you on sunday, lots of fun. I wish I'd of known you were bringing your HL, I would of brought mine too.

The stock steering sucks, first thing I changed.

I'd say "looks good", but can't see the pics.

Maybe try photobucket, works great. Or you could get a star & attach your pics.

Thanks DTP, it was fun while it lasted. Talk about bringing a knife to a gunfight! Let me know when you guys run the HL, I'll be there.
BTW, I didn't realize what you said when I was trying to make it up the hill until a bit later. I was trying to keep the wheels from spinning and digging in but at the end when I floored it, that was still in 1st. With the Mamba Max, I think I'm up to about 25+ in 3rd.

Sorry took so long to fix the pics (again) but was painting the calipers on the 1:1.

For me it works well, probably too fast for most peoples preferrences here but it's not a full crawler and I do like speed. What's strange is that it was more prone to flip in second all stock. I did some fairly good turns with some speed in second and third and first thing to happen was a front tire coming off the wheel.
I've never run a lathe motor so can't really help you out there. I'm sure someone will give you an answer.
Easiest way to run a 7 cell would be to mount it between the frames like how I have mine. That lipo pack I have should be about the same length as a 7 cell unless you run a hump pack.

Snook
Thanks. I'm patiently waiting for my beadlocks to come in so I can slap on the geos. Should look pretty beefy and give me much more traction and clearance.

ohhh no man im a speed demon, plus i am going to buy a mm speedy and its not much more to get it with the motor so i might as well do it and this will be my pimp tow truck and a little off road, for the crawling i have my tlt lol but how fast would u say it tops out in 3rd gear or is it too scary to do full speed?and what is the kv of the motor? and are u shure a 7 cells pack would fit? or should i do a hump packs and put the hump facing down through the frame rails? and last do u think this motor has torqe to crawl if i want to or no?

lol sorry for all the questions lol

It has speed, probably around 23-25mph in 3rd. It has a lot of power too, tried crawling it and only prob was the little tires and not much clearance. I have the 4600kv, if they had a 3800-4000kv that would work great in the HL. I have this same motor in my TT01R and that's too much for it already.
I would recommend using lipo's since you're going with the MM setup. The esc has lvc cutoff, the pack will be lighter and you'll get more runtime

You've had some pretty bad luck with lipo's, sorry to hear. You may want to look into an outrunner, not much speed but great for crawling like a lathe.

Nah, just playing around. I don't have a crawler so the HL is what I'll use. If I did get a crawler though, I'd set it up like this and make the fenders for it. It would be great with some off road tires too.

Worked on the hl yesterday and changed it up a bit. Mounted the tranny above the frame rails and put a 4 link on the rear.
