Very sweet looking rig, all my favourite bits were on your shopping list !
I hope you get a few people into the racing, it'd be a heap of fun.

we're slowly growing here in Aus with a like of U4RC and it turns out there's quite a few builds happening around the country and in my local area

looking good!!!! I got my steering links in. I was wrong. the 165mm bent should work better. I was 5mm off. I had to cut down a set of long traxxas rod ends to get the length. your idea should work better.

small update to the build..

- VP OMF Outlaw II rims assembled, mounted with Pitbull Rock Beasts and Dueces Wild single stage foams

still need to do the following at the very least..

- shorten the male splined CVD shafts (ordered)
- sort out link lengths and order so VP titanium links to suit
- build/make/install and electronics tray
- install electronics
- make some metal body panels to replace the temp plastic ones
- have skins for body panels designed and printed
- order a spare rim and tire
- replace shocks with Kyosho velvet shocks (prob around 100mm)
- secure the driver figures to the chassis
- sort out proper length steering and drag links

here's some photos..

thanks, i'm enjoying this build and i'm sure you will too

i've actually tried to put a bit more info in this thread (including mistakes or oversights) as i wasnt able to find a single source of info on the MZ U4 chassis
i hope it helps someone get a bit of a head start on their build

i've stalled a little waiting on the male splined MIP cvd shafts for the Slash 4x4 to arrive (its a short splined section - MIP #10134)
its needed due to some binding i get in the drive shafts with the link lengths i've chosen..

when those arrive i'll have some final numbers that i've settled on for upper/lower links.

no probs, just one thing to note i havent yet tapped a screw through the axle housings into the tubes (1 on each side of the pumpkin) but plan on doing this at some point..

do a search on "XR Mod" and you should find a pic of what i mean if you havent seen it already

here's some more pics...

lower link lengths are being played with in this first pic...

i was hoping to reach 12.5" and so started out with 4.5" front lowers and 4.0" rear lowers, that gave a longer than wanted wheelbase
i dropped them down to the nearest metric 5mm so went to 110mm front lower and 100mm rear lower and i've pretty much nailed the 12.5" wheelbase

i like that it still stands on its nose...

so a couple more poser pics were taken..

later i decided to steal the triple cap velvet shocks from my Kyosho ZX5 which has 42mm bodies/shafts on the rear (#W5195V) and an eye to eye measurement of 96mm..

i mounted them up to the front to see how they would fit and i like it..
the 38mm shocks (#W5196V / 92mm) i an concerned about being too short and i think the 46mm shocks (W5198V / 106mm) will be too long.

needs some spacers between the upper shock ends and mount but i have a solution for that which when i find them again i'll sort this out and post up more pics...

been a while since an update...

sorted out the wheelbase i want, got that rear tire tucked in just how i like it and we're sitting at around 12.5" wheelbase

then i decided to play with clocked axles...

and while i was doing that, some MIP slash 4x4 male splined shafts arrived..

compared to the AX10 male shaft..

doesnt use all the length in the front, but i'm happy with this...

needed to work on the steering tie rod so mocked one up to the temp one i had in place, sits at 180mm eye to eye...

and send the pic and the diagram to someone local to make out of titanium..
this is what they came up with including the 100mm drag link and there's some room to play with lengths if needed..

in the meantime while i wait for the steering/drag links to arrive an order of Kyosho Velvet Triple Cap shocks arrived, 42mm bodies (W5195V)

and of course i had to mount them up and take some poser shots..
first pic looks like the rear is sagging but its just a decieving pic as the skid and roof are level

Killer looking little rig man

I absolutely love mine and have got more drive time on it this year than almost any other rig I own currently. I'm running basically the same setup as you and it's one of the most stable solid axle cars I've ever driven.

thanks Josh, enjoying the hell out of the build so far

your build served as somewhat of a basis for inspiration, cant tell you how many times i watched your vids before chatting with Lue

really looking forward to wheeling this little beast!

titanium links arrived today and they are spot on for what i was after..
compared to the prototype/mockup i made and the diagram these are perfect

these links suit the Wraith scale knuckle on an XR-Mod SCX axle, eye to eye link lengths..
- tie rod 180mm
- drag link 100mm

also due to the extra thread, i should be able to use the 28mm Jato rod ends in place of the 22.5mm Revo ends for some additional bite on the links

here's a couple pics...

this build is slow to progress but i'm starting to see the light at the end of this tunnel..

remaining items to do..

- make alu panels ** 80% chance to be skinned, but might paint instead
- order some VP titanium links
- order a spare OMF rim
- order a spare PB Rock Beast tire
- mount electronics ** will require some sort of bracket/tray for Esc

i cant wait for some wheel time

Any updates on this rig? Getting a Ultra 4 chassis myself for my next build. I might have some questions once I get it.

progress has been slow on this as i wait for bits to arrive so i can sort out the next step

the only real progress is deciding on final link lengths and making an order for VP titanium rods which i'm still waiting on to arrive..

- Front upper 105mm, part # VPS03927 (90mm)
- Front lower 110mm, part # VPS03928 (95mm)
- Rear upper 95mm, part # VPS03925 (80mm)
- Rear lower 100mm, part # VPS03926 (85mm)

in a previous post i mentioned the remaining items, well those are mostly still to do

i did order most of a spare OMF rim as some items were out of stock but I do have the PB Rock Beast as a spare now just not mounted

feel free to ask any questions, i've done a fair bit of leg work which i think i've shared most in this thread but happy to answer any questions you have, take measurements, show some close-up photos of things not clear in this thread etc
