Hi all thought it time i started a build thread...

There is a growing interest in U4RC in Australia with several builders undertaking the process to get rigs built with a view to kicking off this series down under.
The process will be slow but we're officially running under the U4RC.com banner and will be building rigs to meet the class regulations for that series.

This thread will be a build and progress thread of my 1.9 based rig built on the Mattzilla U4 2014 chassis.

* Edit* Here's a sneak peak at the final build at its first U4RC race

so with some of the parts that had arrived it was time to get the build on...

there were a couple other items that arrived as well, like the RCBros aluminium burly tubes..

shown here installed with the Wraith scale knuckles/chubs...

messed around with product shot style photos of the XR10 unis mounted into the Wraith scale knuckles/chubs..

and the Team FastEddy bearing kit to be used...

then i started work on the rear axle...

and could only get this far as i was waiting on the Vanquish rear lockouts..

so i had the Wraith skid plate arrive and i set about mounting the SuperShafty bomb proof trans to it..

the Tekin ROC412 3100kV motor was also a nice suprise that turned out just in time to join in the fun as well...

and then i attached the MIP drive shafts...

and then started playing around with attaching the front and rear axles..

- VP Wraith Servo mounts and clamps
- VP OMF 1.9 rims w/ Phase 5 beadlock rings

And clearly i had to mount up one of the rims to the Pit Bull Rock Beasts...

And then it arrived... OMG OMG OMG OMG !

In this package was the following from Mattzilla..

- MZ U4 2014 chassis
- MZ Mantis G2 chassis

But here's the U4 chassis as the Mantis will be for a later build thread..

The workmanship here is quite amazing and a testament to Lue's hard work and skills.
There is nothing i can fault its just pure awesome and now that its here I am going to enjoy every last bit of the build.
Thanks heaps Lue for your time to build these chassis for me

And of course a couple minutes later i had bolted up the skid with trans hehe.. i could not wait, my fingers were itching to do it lol

Now begins the phase where I test mount up everthing and work out what i need to do from here on in.
I also discovered some tweaks that will need to be made to what i had ordered (which was pretty much done blind).

Axles, shocks, skid, battery, fuel cell.. all test mounted..

Playing around with the front links..

Cutting the driver figures and squeezing them inside the chassis...

Made some really dodgy rear links and discovered drive shaft was too long...

Weighed the chassis as it stands now...

started to mount up the Yeti fuel cell properly..

and you can also see an idea on how to attach the spare tire using the nut that was conveniently welded there..

underneath the rear screw for the fuel cell cover i glued on a 3mm nut which you cant see, but this is how it looks attached..

And here is where i am going to take a breather, collect my thoughts, work out any small issues and plan the next phase

A lot has been done in a couple days!

so far this covers about 2mths of time to place some orders, wait for the bits and sit on my hands while the chassis was in transit..
i will give you though that once the chassis arrived i have made some fairly quick progress out of being stupidly keen to get started on this beast

i honestly cant wait to be able to pull the trigger on this and take it for a spin..
there's a lot to do from here, some of which will involve new things that i have not attempted before in a build myself

3/16" black P-clips should be useful for something on this build like attaching the Exo radiator set behind the cab

very minor progress on the build, have test mounted the unpainted Exo radiator with the 3/16" P-Clips and it seems to work ok...
will need either longer clips to reach the sides or some other way of tighting it so it wont swing around too much

not sure which i prefer, but I'm leaning to the angled look on the radiator..

small progress on this build..

i've started to play with the idea of making body panels and to learn a process that i am comfortable with..

for me, it seems the easiest is this method..

- cut a piece of clear plastic larger than the area needed
- mark out the panel nut centers
- drill the holes
- attach the rough piece to the chassis with screws
- using a ruler and marker pen, draw a line along the center of the bar work
- remove panel and cut to on the lines

the clear plastic here is actually a binding sheet cover from an office supplies shop as it was cheap and didnt waste the good lexan sheets.. although i will plan on having these cut from sheet aluminium and skinned afterwards..
