It's here! It's finally here! This is the box that will breathe some life into the scale box scene. Or so I've heard... Let's get started with the outer box. This one appeared to be a larger box that was cut down to size. The box shrinking was obviously done by a skilled box craftsman. One day I hope to get to that level. Before I get too far, this box was sent by RPP Hobby. I've had great luck with their boxes in the past. The arrive quickly, are usually ambient temperature and NEVER come upside down. Less talk, more box! Notice the VTR branding on the side. There is a Vaterra box inside this box! I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of shipping labels though. However, the placement of said labels was ideal. Now to to main event. I'll spare you from the details on how I opened the outer box and cut right to the chase. Vaterra Ascender box in mint condition with bonus paper and stickers. I'll see if I can extract the box after dinner. Stay tuned. |

Will this box need a BEC ? More importantly, does this box care if you bring another box home ? |

Box build is on hold so I could build the contents of the box. It's another stupid little truck. Like seriously, every box I get has a dumb little truck for dorks in it. So boring. I built it anyway. It was weird. This one went together like every other little truck but maybe with 15% more cursing and WTF'ing at the instructions. I know how to read and I'd consider myself slightly smarter than the average bear but some of the diagrams in the instructions were dumb. Little dotted lines all over the place pointing at nuts and bolts. In conclusion I prefer building Axial and RC4WD kits over this. I'm going for the M1009 look so I hit it some OD green for starters. I only know how to paint on the outside of bodies so I did that. I'm going to super duper camouflage so I painted the windows too. I also added some 3D door handles to the body. Simple pieces of styrene but they give some extra dimension. This is the completed chassis and stuff. I didn't want body posts sticking through my awesome cool polycarbonate body so I went with some velcro. The bumpers are acceptable but the rock sliders are awful. They really are terrible looking and appear to serve no purpose considering they only cover half of the rocker. Stock wheels and tires are going to go in place for some steel wheels and 1.9 MTZs. I also need to drop the body down because it looks like a monster turk next to my other turks. And when I finish painting the body and take one picture I'm scraping it all for this. Perfect ride height. I'd like to throw some yota II's under it, however, the Vaterra axles are pretty low profile so they might be acceptable under the 80. Centered diffs but whatever. | |||

You did a great job on the camouflage paint job, but it's so ugly I think I may puke. |
