A little Tech update and a little Detail update...

Tech:
After the last comp I wasn't real happy with the shocks even with 80w but I knew there were issues with the pistons going in.
I had heard some guys mention that they were running 100w and even 1000w oil so I decided to give something a shot and I filled my shocks with Black & Tacky gear lube. I have to say I am loving the feel of the shocks with this stuff. The rebound is slow but up travel is very smooth and doesn't appear to be any stiffer when the suspension articulates. The other thing I like is that there is virtually no bounce when I drop the truck from 1 foot off my bench.

Detail:
I received a much anticipated package from Noll11 out of Canada today in the form of a 3D printed fuel cell designed specifically to fit within the tube work. He did a great job and was very accommodating and easy to work with.

Since I had the day off today I was able to get right to painting and adding the fuel lines.
I am very happy with the way it turned out!

A few pics from todays outing at Phon De Sutton on the Salt River.

And a little carnage to end my morning. Tried to save it from flipping on a steep climb and blipped the throttle in reverse right square into a rock.
It made a pretty loud pop and took us all a minute to figure out what it was that let go.

As for the shock oil, the Black-n-Tacky working amazingly well in the Kings. The truck was very predictable and suspension cycled very smooth.

Thanks LB, I really appreciate it!

We are pretty spoiled out here with all the spots to crawl and such varied terrain. This location was a mix of limestone and red rock so the traction was a bit unpredictable but a lot of fun.

I received a little care package from TCS yesterday to repair my rear axle and add a few scale points to the truck.

I may make a few changes before Scale Nationals in April like integrated rear shock mounts and maybe a styrene or brass interior cage to gain a few extra points.

I think integrated shock mounts would really top it off.

Hey, hey, hey, we talked about this. You were supposed to NOT add anymore points to this so I still have some advantage for the rest of the season.

Hot diggity-dog! Pretty sweet looking rig. Nice work for sure! 2 questions: Are those rc4wd shocks, and where might a guy find that black and tacky?

Thanks!

They are RC4WD 90mm Kings. Not sure if Black-n-Tacky is still available or not but you could also probably use 1000w gear oil or heavier and have a similar effect.

I finally decided to switch over to XR universals in this rig. This is actually the first class 2 I have ever used them in, in fact it is the first time I have ever used them period.
William/RcBro hooked me up with a set of his U4 Burly Tubes so that I could get the truck done for this weekends comp. Great customer service!! I did have to cut them down but that was no big deal and mounting was a breeze.
I decided to go with the Vanquish Wraith scale C's and Knuckles for their scale appearance. A few friends warned me that I may not get as much steering out of them because of the built in steering stop but I had to have them and figured if I needed more I could always hit them with the dremil.

I am going to have to change out the front 475 SLW hubs to 350's to get the track width down some, I think it looks a little ridiculous at the moment but it will have to do for now.

I have a few other parts to install in the next week or so. I bought a new BWD motor plate off the board and I have a slipper eliminator kit and OT Shafts coming from Locked Up RC.

Well the XR mod worked great at the last comp. Having the confidence in the universals really helped me relax and concentrate on driving my way to a 1st place finish.

So a few more parts rolled in yesterday. I received my Locked Up RC slipper eliminator kit and OT Shafts for the rear axle. I also found 3 new in package Street League figures on ebay for cheap so now I have a passenger and 1 for the RcBros Hilux Class 1 build plus a spare.

My buddy Chris's wife made me a few killer license plates for the two trucks, the one pictured below and another with my screen name for the Hilux.

I should have the truck ready for the Rocky Mountain Scale Nats in no time.

I have a silly question that's probably painfully obvious, but I'm still going to ask anyways... Are you not running a slipper clutch? Reason I ask is because I wasn't going to run one either - Because I'm hardcore like that lmao XD...

I was able to spend a little bit of time working on the two trucks this afternoon so I decided to upgrade my KMS winch. I bought a new less expensive esc for my daughters rig and took the FXR from it to use to power my winch. Now my winch has 3s power.
I had been using a HeyOk controller to power my winch but it was the 6v version so with my bec set to 6v even my 7950 was under powered. This was a win win all the way around.

chalking up the points wherever I can. I got my lights wired up today and added the spare tire mount.

SLW 350 hubs are on their way from TCS Crawlers as well as a 13T Crawlmaster.

Got my SLW 350 hubs and 13t HH CrawlMaster motor installed on 12/60 gearing tonight.
The new 350 hubs put the truck at 9.75" front width and the rear with the 475's is @ 9.625".

The Crawlmaster motor is super smooth and has great low end control and enough wheel speed to get me into or out of trouble. I know I'm going to have a little less drag brake so that may take some getting used to but I think I'm going to like this motor not that I was unhappy with my 27t TorqueMaster.

I also threw some power to the lights while I was testing the motor tonight.

For some reason my second FXR, the one powering the winch is taking about 15-20sec to arm. Not sure it is due to the 22awg wire I'm using or because I have it wired to the power leads on the other FXR. I'm thinking that could be it but not sure.
