Eliminator_ryan's Dirty Chevy build a.k.a. The Dirty Burger Well I've been a long time member / lurker of this forum so i guess its time i post a build thread. I've been in the crawling scene since the TLT days and have built tons of rigs over the years. I own/run a hobby store and in the winter (yes cold Canadian winter) we have an indoor crawler course that we run so i wanted a new rig for this year. I am using a Clod body that I cut and narrowed and It wanted to use scx front frame. I started first by moving the skid forward 14mm. I will be using music wire for the cage and tig welding it. https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...82&oe=54BA633E https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...ae44c3d30181dd https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...de&oe=54C58B59 Now to start the body work https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...cfe37a55a74419 https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...357aa893b0e9ee So when you're working with styrene or abs you'll get joints that's aren't 100% . I try to use a much material as possible to hold the strength. I shave slivers off of a scrap piece and soften it plastic weld, I then jam it in the crack and smooth it out with the plastic weld brush. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...8e81fdcd9855ce https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...76&oe=54C95936 Now for the back https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...35&oe=54C0C2A0 Before https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...433d4aadb8abbf After https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...433d4aadb8abbf Now to start the narrowing of the front nose https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...bc&oe=54C8611D https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...7ab4dd9f04982b https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...9d&oe=54C9F8E4 https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...7061d7ecb71633 https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...c2e8996f3438fd Now I tacked some tabs on the roll bar to mount the cab for mock up https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...a2b762114887b9 hung my main hoop on the back https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...27&oe=54B1510D https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...36&oe=54CE8CBC https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...aee505464c5220 Quick mock up https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...9c51099b0a110d |
Re: Eliminator_ryan's Dirty Chevy build a.k.a. The Dirty Burger I started this build over a week ago and have all these pics so I'll try and make it in a few post just so I don't overlap pics. Sorry for the camera quality these are all from my phone. Another mock up bum shot...... https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...b2cdb37161cf57 The following night (usually get home at 7:00 or 8:00 pm Bust A** in the garage till 12:00-1:00 then back inside to get and off for work at 6:30 yeah my Girlfriend loved me over the past week ) I got a good chunk of the cage work done in the back. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...c4380e9a3ed480 https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...57&oe=54BB83C1 https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...80b8ffccefab7a https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...6df89b27925bbc Now came shock mounting time, I made some shock plates out of some steel stock and drilled and tapped ever hole by hand. In my lack of sleep / zombie state I snapped a tap in the 2nd last hole of the second shock plate. Luckily I center punched the tap and because it was hardened it shattered and i saved the shock plate :) , and because I'm O.C.D. I had a spare tap so I could continue to build. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...e6142c2ecf6f2c I wanted to hang a spare tire but wanted it to be A: Removable B: A bit different mounting. I took a Revo rocker arm post and turned it down on the lathe and I made a hold down with m4 volt and some welding rod. I then added some cage bracing to brace it to the front of the cage. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...587f07503f5360 https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...d1&oe=54B006EB https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...2fde19409359d0 I tacked some nuts on the back cage to hold the rear fenders, and added a rear cab back and floor broads. https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...fe&oe=54AF0685 Because I moved the skid forward its shorter in the front and huge in the back for links and drive shafts. I fixed my rear shaft issue by using 2 wraith updates on the rear. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...2498dac7e2254f https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...7635408421c7b9 I then added another bottom hoop for the spare tire (I will cut the bottom of the fenders so this will protect them.) https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...edbb3143a83049 https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...34&oe=54ADE9C8 |
Re: Eliminator_ryan's Dirty Chevy build a.k.a. The Dirty Burger Stinger time ........ I made some post in the lathe and welded some rod to the ends. I will re shape it after i ass all the bracing and adjust the length. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...d9f2ca0b52a42a https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...d62389c0d91b51 https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...ab776e191603fd I wanted a fuel cell to go in the back but wanted it to be a bit different. I found an old t-maxx receiver box and mounted the axial fuel cell top on it. I then milled the bottom of it to drop down into my rails and drilled and tapped it so it stays in place. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...ab776e191603fd https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...8226343a740728 Made a battery plate and mounted my electrical (will put rec in the fuel cell latter.) https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...5c&oe=54B23403 https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...ff&oe=54ACAAC5 So yeah now this is all up to date and I will post progress as it come along. |

Re: Eliminator_ryan's Dirty Chevy build a.k.a. The Dirty Burger Well Today was goody day, My birthday present to myself came today https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...1eedcdcd6dfc14 https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...f4&oe=54F7C368 Huge shout out to Steve, Rob, and the rest of crew at Vanquish products for the killer parts. Steve is a friend of mine and he handles his business top notch in my books. I even went with a matching spare rim https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...53&oe=54C75726 The rims just didn't pop to me yet https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...335e84e651dc5b So scale nuts and set screws cured the problem https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...81f7624e7495bd I think these rims were a must. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...15b275d40b8270 https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...d194f2c4b34358 https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...73&oe=54BDCECD https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...fd&oe=54C5B543 |
