Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr Sam was sad... After selling his blue Jeep YJ, he felt a bit down... Then, he decided to go to a scrap yard near by to see what bargain he could find... After wandering around without seeing anything interesting, he found something hidden beneath a tarp in a far corner of the scrap yard. - Huummm... Am I seing a Jeep JK under there? Let me take a better look... http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...JK-001-001.jpg - JACKPOT!!! A Jeep Wrangler JK 2dr with an intact body! Can't say the same about the axles... http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...JK-001-002.jpg Steering link busted... http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...JK-001-003.jpg - Loose links, axles out of place... It's a lot of work, but I'm not scared! Lets take this back to the shop! http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...JK-001-004.jpg http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...JK-001-005.jpg http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...JK-001-006.jpg |
Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr Today we started cleaning and checking the stuff! - This is going to be a lot of work... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-001.jpg - On the outside, it needs a good cleaning... Hope the inside is in better shape... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-002.jpg - It looks good to me, how about you Sam? -It looks good to me too! No broken teeth nor signs of rust. But I'll disassemble everything, check and clean! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-003.jpg - Tada!! Ready!! - So, how were the guts? - All impeccable! It was only necessary to clean some dirt, regrease and reassemble! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-004.jpg - The front one was good too, nothing broken, just the usual dirt. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-005.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-006.jpg - Axles ready and ready to use! - Cool! :) http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-007.jpg - Very well, let's bring the chassis inside now and start taking care of it. - Wow... This needs a nice clean up... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-008.jpg - Starting with this shock... Damn, it's heavy... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-009.jpg - Yey! So many wires! It must be something important! Hihihihihihi! - Watch it! Don't break things that we will need later! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-010.jpg - Fu%#&! This power steering is heavy!!! - Watch your back! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-011.jpg - Sliders won't be needed... Out with them! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-012.jpg - I like this Vaterra shock system! Very cool! - Yap! The rocker arm is aluminium and works on bearings! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-013.jpg - I want that very clean! Shining! Ok? - I'm almost finishing! - In that case, I'll get the body! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-014.jpg - Beautiful! And fits perfectly on the chassis! - Indeed!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-015.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-016.jpg - It was very nice that the body fit so well on the chassis! It almost looks like it was made for this chassis! - True! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-017.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-018.jpg - I told you that the front links from the LR3 would work! - You were right dude! It's spot on! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-019.jpg - And it doesn't rub when you turn! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-020.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-021.jpg - Except at the front. We will have to trim the bumper a bit, but nothing major. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-022.jpg - And the wide was spot on! Awesome! - Yap!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-023.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-024.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-025.jpg - See? The LR3 upper links work as the Jeep lower links! Now that is recycling! Lol! That is true! That means less work making new links! All is missing is the suspension.[/b] http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-026.jpg - Done! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-027.jpg - Now lets test the body... Ups!!! Crap!!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-002-028.jpg - Fu$%&/"#$!!! Let's go away! We come back tomorrow! Too much free time!!:flipoff: |
Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr Nice rig so far"thumbsup". I would like to know more about your cantilevered suspension. Is it for the twin hammers? Who makes the aluminum rocker arms? |
Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr Gotta love a build with a good story :D |
Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr Loving this build (the storyline with pics pushes the awesome over the edge!)"thumbsup" |
Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr Quote:
Yes, it's all from a Twin Hammers except the springs! The original ones were too stiff. I think this springs are from a CC01, but I´m not sure! Quote:

Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr Does Sam feel it's ok to run yota axle under a real 4x4?:ror: |

Back to the shop. - Let's take care of the rear suspension. - Let's go! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-001.jpg - We can pull the shocks foward but this Vaterra rod ends are too big... - Yah... This things are huge...... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-002.jpg -Hey! I found this shorter rod ends! - Nice!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-003.jpg - We don't have threaded rod, so, we can cut the head of this screws and press one end into the rod end and screw the other rod end on the other end! - Do it!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-004.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-005.jpg - Et voilá! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-006.jpg - This one is done. Now lets just adjust height. - Done. Let's test the body. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-007.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-008.jpg - Success!! - Yeehh!!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-009.jpg - Nice flex! - True! Later we have to try and lower the body a bit. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...jk-iii-010.jpg - Let's go home? - Let's go! |
Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr Awesome build thread, love the story line and Sam "thumbsup" |

Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr - Well well mister... Haven't you been slacking on this?? - Sorry mate... - Let's get back to the Jeep. We need to lower that stuff. For that, we should replace the longer screws on the rod ends for shorter ones. - Sounds good. Let's take care of that. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-001.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-002.jpg - There, it's done. Now, I think we need to replace the springs on the shocks. They are too soft to hold the body weight. - Use the originals? - Ok. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-003.jpg - I'm not conviced with this springs also... Now they are to stiff... - Lets's first adjust the height with this springs. Then, we'll see what we can find in the scrap. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-004.jpg - It looks better to me now! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-005.jpg - And it has good flex! More in the back! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-006.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-007.jpg - Do you remember the t-case we brought from the scrapyard? - Yes. - Go get her, because that is the one we're going to use. - Here it is! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-008.jpg - Time to put it on the chassis!! - Ah!! My back!! - Weak... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-009.jpg - Those screws well tightened!! - Don't worry... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-010.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-011.jpg - Let's start on the transmission? It needs to be opened and checked. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-012.jpg - It could be better... It could be worse! I've seen them much worse! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-013.jpg - All clean and assembled. Just this cover left. - Cool. When you are done, we go home. It's freezing in here... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...pjk-iv-014.jpg - And why is freezing in here? Because you are a cheapskate and you don't want to put a heater in here! - If you pay the electricity bill I'll even install an air conditioner in here!! - Dude... I'm an action figure... I don't make money or pay bills... - Excuses... Just excuses... |
Re: Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2dr - SAAAAAM!!! - WHHAAAAAATT!!!! - Hey!! Watch the attitude!! - Attitude? You are the one who came in here screeming like a goat in heat!!! - Well... Do you remember that GCM part we ordered on a saturday, november first? - Yeah, why? - It's here!!! - What?! No way! !You are kiding rigth?!!! - I'm not! Look!! - Uou!!!! It only took a week more or less to get here!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-001.jpg - It is a nice piece, no doubt! - And it's going to be very handy! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-002.jpg - Let's get started! This part will not be necessary anymore http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-003.jpg - Instead of the old spacers, we use this shorter ones that came in the kit. - Interesting... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-004.jpg - It's funny the transmission upside down! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-005.jpg - Ready for the motor! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-006.jpg - Done. For now, it's brushless. Later we decided if this is the one or not. The pinion is 20T and I think is the bigger one we can put in here. There is no more space to adjust the motor. - It's allways good to know this. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-007.jpg - Now, to fit all this stuff in place, we need to make changes to the shock towers and flip them outwards. - Oh! That is something that I've never noticed! - Always distracted... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-008.jpg - There, done. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-009.jpg - To clear the motor, we need to remove this piece of plastic. - I'll take care of that!!! DREMEL!!! MMUUAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHH!!! - ... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-010.jpg - Ok, everything seems to be in place.! - It looks good!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-011.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-012.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-013.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-014.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-015.jpg - Now, we need a drive shaft to connect the transmission to the t-case. - I'll take care of that!!!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-016.jpg - Found one drive cup! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-017.jpg - And another!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-018.jpg - We need a bigger shaft. This one is to short. - That's what she said... - What?! - Nothing... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-019.jpg - How about this? - It will do, it's beautiful and big! - That's what your mother said last night... - What??!?! - Nothing... http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-020.jpg - Drive shafts are in place! It moves on it self! - Easy! I still need to tight this screw http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-021.jpg - Now we need to relocate the steering servo... Headache... - Fu$#%&£! This crap is heavy!!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-022.jpg - Where the heck are we going to mount you?! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-023.jpg - I think I can make a mount out of delrin... - Delrin? Only if it's delrin of the poor... - Eh?! - Kitchen chopping board... - Ah! Can I get some leftovers of that "delrin"? - Knock yourself out... - Let's do this!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-024.jpg - What are you doing? Can I see? - NO!!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-025.jpg - Just a quick peek! - NO!!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-026.jpg - Please?! - NO! Just when I finish! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-027.jpg - IIIAAARRRRRHHHHH!!!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-028.jpg - Voilá! - Huh... Interesting... It might work! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-029.jpg - It works! - Well done!! http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-030.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-031.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-032.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/the-g...epjk-v-033.jpg - You know what we could start working on next? - What? - Lights for the body! - Ah... Electronics... Love it... NOT! |
