Default RC4WD Gelande II D110

I just saw this and couldn't find it on this site. I don't think it's worth the extra $100 over the D90. They're asking $599.99.

It's a custom built body, it takes another D90 body set to build that 4Door body....if you think about it, it's not a bad deal. That D110 body is custom built, not simply plastic injection molded like the regular D90.

This is a quote from the RC4WD website...
Quote:
This is a hand modified body from a D90 2 door body. We have adapted two bodies to make the stretched D110 4 door version. This is not a one piece unit, it's made up of many parts mostly hand cut. So there will be some imperfections in the body due to the hand modification. There will be some minor cosmetic work that may need to be completed to the body before painting

That's a good story, but why should you have to pay $100 more for a body with "imperfections"? The $100 added fee should be going towards paying off a new mold that they should have purchased.

I don't think there is enough demand for them to make a mold for that body. By the way, no one is forcing you to buy anything.

Not buying it. Just voicing my opinion on this discussion forum...

Molds are expensive. They'd never pay it off at $100 a pop. Keep in mind this is a longer wheelbase, so most likely an entirely new machined chassis.

Yes, molds are very expensive. I used to design molds. RC4WD got a mold for the D90 so somehow they expect to pay it off. Axial, Tamiya, etc wouldn't get away with a hacked together body with imperfections. I understand RC4WD is a boutique kit maker, but why are they held to lower standers with a kit that costs $600?

I understand a lot of people wanted this vehicle and I'm glad they're offering it, but I don't think it's wrong to ask questions.

Your complaining that they charge more for a bigger chassis kit, it has a carrier bearing for the rear drivelines and has a custom body then the regular D90 kit? I don't think you can compare Axial or Tamiya to RC4WD.....RC4WD is a super small company in comparison. Again, no one is forcing you go buy anything.

dready already pointed out that it $200 more
prolly for machining new chassis rails
looks like the only difference is the carrier bearing/and extra solid drive shaft/and the body ...everything else looks the same im not fond of the interior being the d90 interior just shoved in there.....for a 200 premium you would think this body would come with a suitable interior to fit it
but ilove my d90 and ill prolly pic this one up too.......i just hope it comes with two extra door handles.......lol......

Great point. Simple math obviously evaded me today!

In that case, this should definitely be a one-piece, molded body!

The problem with those bodies is that the paint does not stick well - at least not for me and the few other people I've seen. It must be the primer that the body gets once the modifications are done. Whatever the reason, I'd suggest stripping it off and priming the thing yourself, if you get one. After what I went through with my D90 and D90 Pick-up I certainly plan to some good prep work.

Hard body prep is all about clean plastic and good primer. My painter runs an auto body shop, and what i thought was good primer (duplicolor) he said the base coat tried to lift
