| 1958 Jeep FC170....I must be crazy!
I stumbled on to a vehicle for sale on Bring-a-Trailer the other day and decided I must have one....in 1:10 scale! Haven't attempted a styrene job this big yet, a cowl hood and an interior, but a body? - well, here is my inspiration. Will update after my hand stops cramping! Lots of curves in one of these. I've seen a couple of threads since I spawned this idea, not sure I will match the level of quality, but now I am powered by curiosity - get the roof on then see what chassis it will get mounted on. Spec's: This will either be mounted on a Vaterra Ascender chassis or a RC4WD leaf spring chassis, this would be more scale Front mount motor / trans with transfer case is the current plan Brushed motor, Castle ESC or equal 1.9 tires with steel wheels Gotta have the wood bed.....maybe the original steel replica, depends how the cab turns out after a ton of sanding, putty and then the roof. |

Nice, a cabover Jeep. Way cooler than any JK will ever be. It does really deserve the leaf springs, even if it will crawl better with Ascender DNA. |

I'm not much of a cheap fan anymore, but the old classics especially the forward controls are really unique. I give a thumbs up to it being leaf sprung. Ilook forward to watching this one

Well got a little further, ALOT of sanding to go and filler here and there. Bracing and a butt load of little details yet to go. Gotta finish the grill, glass stops. Its a little off here and there but had to ball park and calculate some dimensions from my picture stash. Definitely want the wood rear deck, can picture a couple scale dirt bikes strapped down back there. Gotta see how the body work turns out first before I build the back half. |

Love it! That green one looks pretty cool, but I'm more traditional. Looks like you have a great start goin on. Should be a little more rounded on the cab though. Looking forward to see what you come up with. |

Well, I knew this was going to be a slow build and one of the things I hate most is waiting for parts to come in the mail! That said I have finalized my plans and have the body close to being ready for paint. Here's what I have decided on.....JUST WAITING FOR PARTS! SCX10 chassis to begin with, stock Honcho shocks for now Hand Bros CMS kit RC4WD Red Leaf Springs - NO LINKS - except for one upper in the rear left, kind of a anti leaf spring wrap bar GearHead rear shock relocation kit (going with as flat a bed as possible) RC4WD 1.9 Irok's Hot Racing steel 8 hole slots love the hardware! - and the mini valve stems puts a smile on my face every time I look at them! - Now in Testers Phoenician Yellow - part of my paint scheme Team Brood is clearing out a bunch of Trinity Chameleon 2 - 19t brushed motors. Tried one in another SCX10, lots of torque and good wheel speed - Got One! Hobbywing Quicrun 1060 ESC - always used Castle stuff, thought due its size it could be concealed easier RC4WD driveshaft alignment shims G.T. Power 22mm Super Bright headlight set Teaser shot, more driving me crazy as I am at a stand still until the chassis gets here so I can figure out how I am going to mount the body and fit it on the chassis The wheels |

Thumbs up on the progress! What's going to be the color of choice? Sticking with the original picture color? Only thought I have is, I'd spend the $20 on some CI foams for those iroks. Just my .02¢ www.liquidprintedgraphics.com/ |

Body is in color! And finally got started on the chassis. Started with the rear link to leaf swap. Had to straighten the frame rails to get the springs to line up at the front and rear mount points. Used a GearHead shock relocation for both the shock mount and offset the springs Pic with wedge installed Going to need shorter 80 to 85mm shocks though Base coat.....trying to follow the paint scheme at the top of the thread COLOR!!!! Now for the front suspension and assembly....fun stuff! Thats Testors Firey Orange over Testors Phoenician Yellow and a little clear coat. |

A few build updates. Finished the front end conversion to leafs. Added a simple upper link to hopefully assist in controlling spring wrap. Its "floating" through the upper link mount on the rear diff and attaches to the normal left inner location of the trans mount. Flex was un-affected albeit not having a ton of flex, but that should improve with a set of correct length shocks. Rear diff mount Flex shots....gotta have a couple! No where near the same as my SCX10 but very true to scale, really like it so far. |

Added the front headlights, and running lights. Started the bed, wanted wood but I convinced myself that after a couple rollovers that wood side rails would not hold up. I ordered a couple sheets of miniature RC4WD diamond plate, some Lockup RC hardware and added a 3/16 square aluminum frame network to mount the deck to. Now its roll bar time. And trying to cut a windshield for this thing! Mocked up, not mounted yet |

Its Cage'in time! Still have a lot of cleaning up to do but thought I would combine the cage and a tire holder. Giving thought to adding weight to the inside of the tire, BB's? Need to add some ballast to the rear. Just received the ESC so maybe tomorrow I'll see how it runs! Like to have the correct shocks first. |
