Delux builds a Jeep YJ Wrangler..

This is going to be a quick and simple build using as many parts that I already have on hand as possible..

Over summer we like to go camping alot, I always pack an RC to take along but pretty much everytime I do I manage to break or damage some little detail part..

So this is gonna be my traveler! Simple and tough on the outside with some fun detailing on the inside.
This is heavily influenced by Kevs Mangler and Mattys YJ Jeep.

Initially I had the idea of building a mini-me of my Cherokee using a Proline body and an SCX. It would have done the job just fine, tough and simple. But I just couldn't bring myself to be seen in public with a lexan shell.......





So this one got shelved.... I've stripped the running gear out of it to use in the YJ build...

I've had a Modellex YJ chassis sitting around for ages, this will be perfect for the job!

They are all steel,with integrated bumpers. Doesn't get more solid than that!

The bodywork is nice and simple, a radiused rear arch and simple trimmed fenders up front..

I tidied up the front end, removing the silly light bracket thingy and filling the edges of the grill in so they were the correct shape for a YJ.



Darn Jerps! An indicator fell out!

I shaved the molded brackets off the hood and drilled holes for wire ones..



On the back I filled in the yuck stock body mounts and added a fuel filler under the rear light..

The basic shell ready for paint and weathering etc..

The pilot for this one is a Knight Customs body, modified to sit in an Axial seat and a Matt Hicks Designs head..

So his body have to be modded to fit in seats

Kinda like carven a willy driver?

Looks great. I love the lines on the YJ body stick but the cuts you have made really stand out. Nice.

Just like that, they are made to fit a stock Willys seat, so a bit of trimming from one spot and adding to another....

Man this one is looking great so far. I'm curious to how you like the RCModlex chassis.

I've been contemplating a YJ build for ever (I have a 1:1) but I'm unsure of which frame to build it on. I want it to crawl well, and look good. Lol.

How do you plan on mounting the body with the rear mounts shaved?

Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses.

I'm impressed with the Mex chassis, I've modded it a bit to suit my needs, I'll put up some pics....

I've startewd the interior...

I chopped off the Mex rear bumper and made some body mounts that incorporate the rear bumper so it can all hinge back...

Ignore the ugly body mount bolts, I'm gonna change those to something more scale!
