The northkona Erik Miller 4421 Ultra4

I have been looking for another Ultra4 rig to do a scale replica of and decided to make Erik Millers rig. Its got to be the fastest live axle rig out there , his 2nd at the national champs proves it !
http://www.nittoracing.com/wp-conten...45-800x600.jpg

This is my first 1.9 tube build so its going to be a tight fit trying to fit the usual running gear I have in my 2.2 rigs.
A quick list of parts

3/16 brakeline tube chassis
Wraith skid
Narrowed AR60's with BeefedRC tubes
RX8 , Pro4 3300 , savox 1230 on 3S.

His build thread on that rig was great. Lots of cool details in that rig, it has been fun to watch him do so well with it over the last couple seasons.

For sure, he's had great success.
And finally a build I can do without people asking "where's the IFS ?" :lmao:

These are the Narrowed axle housings I'm using .Only the front is narrowed , the rear has XR10 lockouts to bring the width down. The tangs are re-cut on the shortened axles. They come with alloy tubes fitted and I can still use a regular VP truss . (BeefedRC on FB)

Nice start to another great build.

Since I have never owned an XR, how much shorter are those lockouts versus the wraiths?

Cheers, thanks !
And no , I've never owned an XR either and judging by the lack of supply of the lockouts , everyone is over them . I managed to find some on fleabay.
The difference is 29.3mm vs 32.4mm , its not a lot but it makes it easier to get the trackwidth to under 11" for 1.9 Trophy in U4RC.

Awesome. You make some great rigs for sure. Miller also won KOH a few years ago ( I'm sure you knew that). That dude and rig can for sure get it done with a solid front!

Looks like a great start on your parts list! Looking forward to this one, all of your other scale rigs have been top notch.

Cheers Wes, no training wheels here ! this is going to be my rig for Axialfest... unless I build it , drive it and get itchy fingers to do another build !

Some chassis pics, all 3/16 steel brakeline and 45% silver solder.

Re: The northkona Erik Miller 4421 Ultra4

My plan for battery power is to run 2 X 2200 3S batteries and keep them pretty low and central. Its a really tight fit but this is what I came up with.

Driveshaft runs under batteries, no clearance issues.

I've been wanting to build a scale mirror like that forever! Nice work!

northkona 11-30-2014 03:55 AM

Re: The northkona Erik Miller 4421 Ultra4

Here's a close -up of the mirror , still 1 more to make .
The screws are 1.4mm and the clamp is run loose so they swing away on impact.

Re: The northkona Erik Miller 4421 Ultra4

With the shortened front axle housing steering was very limited due to the tyre hitting the link/shock mount . I made some offset stainless steel mounts to move them inboard a bit. They work fine but might be a bit lightweight , I'll give them a good bashing to see if they hold up before making stronger ones.
