| 66 Ferd "Ginger Kicker"
I started this build a few months ago based on the Proline emaxx hay hauler body. I also had stock axles and a trans off my spare parts runner to donate for the cause. A nice old man I know, Ickabob, provided the body in exchange for a paint job. I bought the Scale Shop chassis and delrin skid because it looks like an improvement over stock rails. I'm also using TSS Robby Gordon beadlocks for this one because, as you all know, Robby kicked baja's ass in the original hay hauler. |

I thought about cutting my own frame rails for this one but in the end I'm glad I went with TSS. They are predrilled and have the raised upper link attachments. Saved some time there over figuring it out myself. The wheelbase of the body is a little long at 13" so I worked on some custom links. I used 8/32 allthread from the Home Depot, revo rod ends and some stainless sleeves for the lowers. I drilled holes in the rulers to hold the axles in place during the measuring process. |

I covered the uppers with black heat shrink for a cleaner look. |

| Re: 66 Ferd "Ginger Kicker" I'm also using gmade reservoir shocks, as seen here. I mounted the body and then sent it to a fabricator for some custom bumpers and sliders. I wanted to use 1.9 BFG's on this but they are just too big. I would have had to cut too much of the fenders and I just won't do it. So a good compromise was Flat Irons. They look like Krawlers, no? I'm using wildboars because it was my easiest option for an extended rear driveshaft. I used parts off the tree to make a three piece like the new design. And i put an aluminum tube inside the male center section to keep it from twisting like black licorice. Sorry if this thread jumps all over the place. Deal with it. |

You're gonna have a problem with that paint. Unless you use a paint made for plastic (like for plastic patio furniture), then you gotta use lexan paint. You might be able to get away with using what you have if you scuff the body very well.

I sent the truck to Gary of RC Scale Trailers to fab the bumpers and sliders. I like the pre-runner style and even though this will be a crawler and trail runner, not a racer, I went with the desert style. Keeps it true to the hay hauler roots, too. Here's what he came up with. I'm really happy with how the bumpers turned out! |

I finished painting the body yesterday but the stinking sun won't come out here until Friday. I used Spaz Stix candy root beer and it needs sunlight to show its full glory!

| Re: 66 Ferd "Ginger Kicker" I freakin love this body, too. I hope to have it drivable by Friday. Next priority will be getting an interior. I'm thinking of trying the Dinky universal interior. To get it drivable I need to put on some VP high clearance knuckles. Then I'll make a new steering link, SST to match the lowers. And see if my "steering stabilizer" fits. If not I have another old shock I'll use. I put JB Weld inside the shock body once I know the length I need for the tie rod. Oh yeah, the power will be a MMP and Novak 18.5 sensored motor. Servo is now a Hitec 7955tg. And a castle bec in there. Electronics are all going up front on a homemade, Jevne copied plate. Last edited by snicklefritz; 12-16-2014 at 09:13 PM. |

I'm thinking more about the interior and I just might go with the Dinky honcho interior. It has a bench seat and an old ford would have had a bench seat. I have a honcho body at home right now, I'll do some comparative measuring between the two bodies but I'm pretty sure they're close to the same size.
