Default Ol' Greenie... Just another 'yota axled Chevy...

It's been quite awhile since I've been on here, but as of late I've been lurking on around and checking out some killer scale builds and it's giving me the itch... I recently bought a house and upon moving all my stuff I found a bunch of brand new parts for a scaler! What's a guy to do? Hit the bench! So I did ; )

So far the plan is:
Home built c-channel frame.
'Yota axles.
White wagon wheels.
1.9 Flat-Irons
Clod body (with some mods)
HH handwound
Torquemaster ESC

Still up in the air on a transmission/suspension... I have some home made leaves and shackles, but I kind of want this old Chevy to have a bit of ability to go with it's attitude, so we'll see... I'll get pictures up as soon as I can figure out how to do it from my phone. Not having internet at home is kind of a bummer...

So I've been doing some serious thinking about what type of suspension to put under this rig, and I'm really leaning towards a 4-link...

Here she sits... Broken hearted... No suspension... 'Cause Reflektr started... To build without thinking lol.

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Thank you sir! Hopefully I can get some more done today. It's colder than a well digger's chicken so it just may have to be a slow day at the shop...lol.

Uh-oh... What's this?

Is that the start of a 4-link bracket for an offset yota axle???

Little more progress...

...I wanted something sleek and somewhat scale-looking for my upper/lower link mounts... Those 'Yota axles are small and "smooth" and I didn't want to take away from that with a big bulky 4-link bracket. I still have to make the mounting tabs, but first need to figure out if I want to do traditional 4-link up front, or go with 3-link/panhard bar...

Got the link tabs welded on and got 'er painted up and ready for installation! I know you must be thinking this build's going super slow - Trust me... So am I lol. All of my tools including my bench vice, welder and die grinder are all at my work, and l chose to buy a house a half hour from my shop lol. I may come in to town tomorrow and make more progress than I can get done "under the radar" at work... Thank you for your patience!

All mounted up! Took me long enough...lol. It's different, and I'm pretty happy with the way that one turned out. Now on to the rear axle...

I was really hoping to have more time to make some solid progress on this rig over the weekend, but catastrophe reared it's ugly head... Just minutes before I went to leave for the shop Saturday morning, I had a pipe blow apart in my attic : ( .... After shutting the water off, I went up in the attic to check it out and found that where the pipe was located was a place where even I could not fit...So through the ceiling I went. Sweating frozen copper from below with miles of insulation around is only slightly safer and easier than in a space where one cannot fit ; )

I however did manage to snag a few much needed parts as well as make some link bars.

Got a mock-up of the shocks so I should be able to make some hoops now. Can't believe our lhs had the kings. I was pretty tickled! I also snagged the last of the revo rod ends they had for my links. Didn't snap any pics, but I did snag more 3/16 and make some test links. A 8-32 die will cut right down on tapered 3/16 which easily threads right into a revo rod end ; ) Hopefully I'll have more done tomorrow!

Just pulled the trigger on an AX10 transmission that should be here within a few days. Was going to go with the rc4wd r2 HD but apparently they break easily, and I've heard nothing but good things about the axial transmissions...plus being $20 cheaper never hurt nobody lol. I suppose I could do some body work in the meantime... Any suggestions for removing old paint from ABS?

Thanks man! It's slowly getting there. I tried some "stripper" on the body but she got mad when she found out I couldn't pay her ; ) All joking aside, this poor old Chevy body has had too many paint jobs. If I could go back 15 years, I'd be sure and tell 16-year-old-me to lay off the damn paint lol.

Here's some home made link bars! Yep, wasn't kidding when I said building from scratch! ...plus I'm cheap lol...

Paint must have been made way better 15 years ago, I'm tellin' ya...lol. I dunno what I was thinking when I was a kid, seriously! We got blue with a yellow stripe, then I must have went through a purple phaze (haha), then we have silver, and last but not least - Primer.

Nice looking build so far, can't wait to see what you do in the future.

You just need to add some rust to the body and it'd look sick.

Thank you! That thought has crossed my mind, but unfortunately Ol' Greenie is a little on the preppy side and thinks she has a hot date or something... I did mock up my link bars and they look like a go!

Can't wait to get the chassis mounts and shock hoops made so this pig can stand on it's own!

So I'm pretty happy to be getting the ball rolling on this project. My transmission showed up today...

Lots of tiny parts...

...Anyone noticing anything???

Ok, how about now. lol. Somebody's gonna get a spankin'! ...either this was packed on a Friday afternoon, or my gear and locknuts are taking a vacation and having a wild and unimaginable threes- Ehhh nevermind lol. I called Tower and they're sending the parts tomorrow so no biggie.

Finally got the chance to work on my rear 4-link axle bracket. I dunno if it turned out as nice as the front bracket, but I was kind of in a hurry tonight...and I know...haste makes waste... : / But if it works well I'll probably roll with it...

I also worked with my shocks tonight for a little bit. I tried regular shock oil in the Kings and wasn't feeling it... So I loaded them up with some Associated 7000wt diff oil I had laying around for my 8T. That's more like it : )

I know what you mean on the shock fluid, I tried 1K and couldn't tell a difference from 30W. Then I tried 5K and the shocks felt over dampened. I'm about to try 2K in this new rig and see what that looks like.

Word. Anything less and I could barely tell there was any fluid in them at all. Is it just me, or do those shocks seem a little more tricky to bleed than others? I guess I'm just out of practice lol.
