My REDNECK CLOD build via Mattzilla

Got a lot done or at least it looks like it. I haven't said anything about the wheels yet. Well, here they are. I came across a set of these beautiful Gear Head 1.9 BTR TT. I'm wrapping them now with some comp cut boggers, CI foams, and a some dress up from LURC hardware section. I'm a few bolts short at this point, but I'm sure some have already figured that out.




I did get all the links set in place, and then had to trim the fronts by 5mm. I also had to do a downward bend on the front uppers to give more suspension flex. The tranny mount plate was getting bumped before a full compression.

Before the -5mm shortening.


Were there's a will, there's a way to tighten these dang LURC scale bolts.

I did trim the indicator lights off of the grill to allow for more articulation without rub. More details to come in the future. Paint, LED's, . . .










And now the Jimmy has jumped up a class after being on some solid steroids.


Rear fenders next, winch, CMS photos, and time to get this thing running to evaluate its performance before finishing it off.

You haven't seen my Junk Yard Bronco. Its a cross between a U4 and a C3 rig. One of my boys drives it when we go out. I had an old bronco body with a big hole in the hood. What to do with that. So I chop shopped it and bolted it to my Mantis.

The CMS was a basic job. I used a 7950 Hitec. When I fully compressed the front end, the top of the axle births servo and the pinch horn I originally planned to use. Plan 2: I had a Losi horn that sticks out 5/16" from the servo face. I made some Delrin brackets that elevated the servo. One bolt per bracket through the driver's side of the chassis. As you can see the horn misses the bottom of the chassis by some kind of hair measurement. So that's close. I had an extra bent Ti link that was curved perfectly to match the width of the frame. Now I can get a full front suspension compression. Goal achieved on the steering.

I'm digging it for sure. Looks like I'm going to have to step my game up a little to keep on par with these other great Chevy builds.

I love the chevy grill! Where did you get it from?

You have the diff covers mixed up. LPW goes on the rear, HD Dana 60 goes on the front.

The LPW cover has the cross bar to mount stabilizer bars onto

Vanquish has them mixed up on their website. No clue how they did that but now everybody with currie axles has their diff covers backwards haha

Thanks for the specs. I'll get to it when I pull the axles for a cleaning. So it may be a few months down the thread.

Awesome build... im working on a Clod shell build for my SCX10 chassis at the moment, its not going to turn out like this one though, with the MZ chassis thats on another level !

I've been a little slowed down for a while. I dropped a large rock on my fingertip. Now 8 stitches later, I found my next redneck quote.

"I'm not gonna pass gas for the next two weeks, cause I don't want no one pullin my finger."

Servo winch mounted in the back. I'm going to put a lexan bed liner underneath it.




What color should I paint it? Give me your opinion.

I'm painting my Clod shell in a gun metal flake with a black band down the sides... then its getting matte lacquer over the top to flat it out.

Against the orange i would go black or a dark grey / gun metal for a nice contrast.

Being that the cage is orange, doing the classic two tone Chevy did on a lot of trucks of this body style, orange top and rockers with a white/cream band/stripe would look pretty good.
