Noll11's Unimog 1300l (3d printed)

Hi all, have been posting updates onf this build on other sutes, but thought I should do so here too. Just a quick post before I head to work, will have mode detail later.

What I started with (designed the cab model mostly from scratch):

and how it is currently( bondo time!). apologies for the blurry pics, will take better ones later.

will be making a tube frame roof like this one for it:

more to come in a few hours.

Re: Noll11's Unimog 1300l (3d printed)

Started making the cage (needs to be shortened a bit):
http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...psyhsbpkxq.jpg
http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...pssdhdrf2e.jpg

and got the cab bolted on to the chassis:

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...psc8hxqxxq.jpg

turns out that I modeled a recess into the body (can't even remember why now) that's the perfect size for the servo to sit up in at full compression:

what substrate are you using? And how much finishing/trimming does each piece require?

Nice work on that cab so far. Looks awesome.

Re: Noll11's Unimog 1300l (3d printed)

Thanks guys! Really happy with how it's turning out.

I'm printing in ABS and PLA (doors and dash PLA, rest abs). Needs some bondo and sanding for. A nice finish but not too bad. Gong to be getting my own printer soon, and the print quality is muchh higher

Looks like all the electronics will indeed fit under he hood, yay:

And mocked up a honcho bumper, which I think looks quite good with it:

Awesome man. Thanks for sharing. You using Solidworks, or something else?

Thanks!

Just using google sketchup and a stl plugin actually haha. Going to be transferring over to autodesk fusion 360 soon though as money allows.

No, it's my secret weathering technique :ror:
yeah, working upstairs to hang out with family while I worked on it.

Bed done and test-mounted. still have to do the front brackets to mount to the frame:

Rough ride-height (still need to get shorter shocks front and rear)

possible spare-tire location. Thoughts? :

Re: Noll11's Unimog 1300l (3d printed)

It's been a few months, but I'm back at this one! Need a C2 for the RC4wd event in July, so this is going to need to be another fast build!

I've started by doing a substantial redesign of the body - I've learned a lot since I finished it, and have been able to make a number of tweaks to ensure it prints nicely. Needed to do this anyway before I start selling the bodies, so it made sense to do it all at once.

The most major of these is the redesign of the underside to lower the body on the chassis (was really high earlier, even though it may not look it; the pics were all without shocks in):

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...psfbnontv2.png

Fits like a glove, and even adds a body mounting point (screwed directly in):

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...psbtpykgye.png

and the whole mock-up. Looks a bit high at the moment, as the shocks in the pic are at full droop and there's no bumper.

Still need to do the following:
- rear body mount
-door hinges
-figure out winch location and make a mount (I'm thinking both front/rear winches on this, we'll see...)

then it's time to print, as time allows between printing preorders.

Re: Noll11's Unimog 1300l (3d printed)

Got the front bumper done today (as well as a lot of non-visible stuff to make the body ready to print).

Going to make the model flat, screenshot it, and print it out (not 3d-print haha) as a template to make/fold from steel.
http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...psw0fqfawu.png

EDIT: Also managed to buy the last available full set of 1.7 iroks (the only c1 legal variant)from RPP, so I'll be running this in both C1 and 2 at the RC4WD event in southern ont next month!

Re: Noll11's Unimog 1300l (3d printed)

Thanks! need to have it built by the end of the coming weekend, so more progress soon!

Decided that I'm going with lime green/black as a paint scheme, and spraybombed (badly) a spare axle housing to see what painting the axles might look like. I'm liking it... (even with some photo color correction, the pic doesn't accurately reflect the real color - it's rustoleum Lime Green):

having printer issues, but will hopefully be printing more body parts tomorrow.

Re: Noll11's Unimog 1300l (3d printed)

Got the rear bed all bent up, but it turns out that I'm out of oxygen for my brazing setup, so that'll be done tomorrow.

In the meantime, I realized that I had an old graphics card and a axial exo rad lying around, so i combined the two. I'll be picking up another identical fan as soon as I can and moving this one for a better looking setup, but for now this works fine!
