Default '67 Kaiser M715 Jeep "The Original Brute"!

So as if the punishment I put myself through building the FC170 wasn't enough, I got the urge to start another scratch build. It started out with me looking for an upgrade for my Hilux Truggy, as I got a little bored with it, so I saw this Kaiser M715 for sale and thought cool, the windshield isn't curved, gotta be easier that the FC was!

Inspiration:

Sketches:
Using the Hilux as an outline I drew my patterns.

Then using .060 as an inner wall which will double as the inner door panel I am using .040 for the outer skin with curved standoffs to give me the slight outer curve the truck has.

Now add some outer skin supports and start the character lines and start the drivers side.

Got most of the detail done on the passenger side, makes assembling the drivers side a little easier. Sitting on the SCX10 chassis, will not be using the cage, this will have a matching pick up bed.

Yeah, regular addiction! Getting cabin fever, let us know when you need any help at all with track preparations!

I get the Tenax at Nankin Hobby in Farmington Hills, they also stock Plastruct in 7"x12" multi sheets per package sets.

At least with this one I am re-purposing my Hilux chassis instead of a ground up build.

Thanks Guys!
Well I realized that M715's were very stark trim wise, no chrome, which means no grill or headlight bezels etc. So with gaping hole in the grill I need something that resembled a radiator. I had some stainless mesh and some brass screen material so when i overlay-ed the two it kinda looked like a radiator. Also had to come up with a strategy for the roof as it has a variety of angle so I started this bow like structure that will support the roof material.

Radiator material;

Got the roof closed and the hood roughly fab'd up. Now body filler time and a bunch of sanding. Still have a lot of small details and the bed to go. Going to re-locate the rear shock mounts, not going to cut the bed floor.

Going to lower the body - not going to sit this high.

Moving a little slower than anticipated! Got the fenders on and a little bed work. For a vehicle with no chrome and mostly straight lines, I keep finding more details that I want to add to the build. This one is fun though.

Thanks! Can you send a link to Ian's project or are you talking about the WD40 Jeep build he did.

Well bed has taken more time than I thought, still have faux hinges (bottom of tailgate) to tie into the tailgate. I was going to hinge it but since the M715 will see some abuse I wanted the bed as closed up and rigid as possible. Not going to use the front bumper from the Hilux. Will be brazing up a scale version of the M715 brush guard.

I see that Ian bought the M715 but I do not see any current updates to what he has done to it yet. Have you seen any progress? And thanks for the M715 site info. I did stumble across it when I was doing some research on this build.
