Holy cuss! Holy cuss! What a beautiful machine! The detail on this body is awesome. I cannot express my excitement on this 40 series body. However, I did not see the optional rear heater LOl.

It's possible. N00b did it for a build of an Austin Gypsy he was doing on the SBG.

I'll have to look that up. I remember that build but normally don't pay attention to the chassi as much as the body work with his builds...

I've got this chassis just sitting in a box, awaiting a chance to see the sunlight again. This body is what it needs.

Do it sir. As soon as they offer it separate, count me in for two.

I'm trying really hard to be more like me, too.

So today I spent a good portion of it doing some detail work and paint prep.

The interior already has an insane amount of detail, but I wanted to make it a little more accurate.

Knee pads, tapered steering column, heater vents, stamping marks, and to replace the weird electronics box, I made up a little wooden crate to look a little more period specific.

Now for the fun part!

After priming, I decided that I wanted to try a new technique with Sophisticated Finishes. Typically, you apply this afterwards. Taking a cue from pardonmyn00b and some weathering he'd done in Smiggin's Folly, I decided to dilute it slightly, and apply it with a spray bottle before I did any paintwork. Yes, all the lemon cleanser was removed. Or was it?!

What a mess.

I then did a mild wipe, and applied more in strategic areas all over the body.

It doesn't look like much here, in fact, it looks pretty awful. But I promise, given a bit of time, and a top coat or two, it should look pretty good.

I also made sure to add diamond plate to the door sills, to be accurate to the original. This is after all, a Tiyote.

First coat of actual paint. Closest I could find to Nebula Green. If anybody wants to duplicate it, it's Tamiya XF-71. Thinned slightly and applied with an airbrush.

You'll notice, like any good custom paint job, I applied a mural of an FJ Cruiser on the roof of my Cruiser.

I was thinking the same thing when I did Farm Truck. The thick helped with the thick rust on the bumper and bars but didn't want to do it on the body.

Can't wait to see how this works. Scratches would rust through???

I was just about to join the ranks of you and your compadres in buying one of these kits. Until I saw that shipping was $130 to Texas. I wouldn't pay that to ship an organ transplant.

I guess I'll just live vicariously through you guys. Makes me sad.

Show me something new on your build, Matt! Cheer me up!

Like the man said (RC4WD MAN) the kits are being shipped from overseas. If you can wait awhile, shipping will come back down to normal.

Here comes more!

I did some things. Firstly, threw a coat of white over the green, just for kicks. I then performed a shock shortening trick where flexible tubing is inserted into the shock to lower the whole vehicle.

Much betterer lowerer. Up here in the land of salt and construction, all 40's look like this:

Oh darn. Old Rusted Hotness.

Thanks to n00b, he pointed out that the bezel requires some narrowing along the bottom portion of lower part. Success!

I wasn't truly happy with the first go at Nebula Green, so I resprayed it with a touch of Sea Grey added to the paint. I'm much happier with it now. A few detail bits here and there, then on to the weathering (which means I put it outside for a few days).
