I'm going to build a Gelande II chassis with leaf springs and u-bolts; spring under the axle, like I've seen on some Land Cruisers. ![]() The question is, will flipping Gelande axles upside down do anything wierd to the way they work? |

Let's think this one through? I'll start. Where is the ring gear going to end up and which way is it going to spin?

The ring gear will be on th opposite side....so it will spin the opposite way?

If they spin the opposite way, I should be able to reverse the motor wires and spin them the way I want them to go, right? I've never tried anything like this so I'm sorry if it seems goofy.

Alpha Male, I reversed the axles on my Sawback in order to run them how you want, and did what you said about reversing the motor wires. Been running like this for over 1 year.

Choose the motor carefully, if you are going to run it primarily in reverse of its intended rotation get 0 or as close to 0degrees of timing or the motor won't perform to its full potential

Or go brushless. Heck sensored brushless motors can be had for less than 30 bucks. At that price, give them a shot at waterproofing and buy a spare or two. My 3800 kv SCT can crawl with the best of them with the MMP set at full sensor mode. Just a thought...

I'd be more worried about the steering. I haven't looked closely at the axles in question but if they have caster and you cant clock the c-hubs then you are going to have some interestin steering problems. Even more so if the c-hubs cannot be flipped you are going to have problems if the KPI is other than zero. Last edited by Scrap; 02-23-2015 at 02:51 AM. |

I have a few motor choices on hand, but most don't have adjustable or zero degrees timing. Maybe a low kv brushless will be my best option. As for the steering, I'll have to experiment when the kit arrives. If the spring under idea doesn't work out because flipping the axles causes too much of a problem for the steering I may have to go with the leafs on top of the axles. Thank you for all the input! ![]() |

arent they equal length axles? cant you just flop the ring and pinion?

orig machined yotas and the cast yotas off the tf2 dont have the 8degree steering setup and could be flopped upside down for a spring under axle. also, if you were crafty you could mount the leafs to the axles with ubolts and maybe make your own set of spring perches to use between the leafs and axle tube.
