Default '66 Ford F100 Wroncho Build

Well I know these have been done before, but I've always wanted to have the hybrid SCX10 / Wraith combo. I have a tube frame Wraith and a couple SCX10's but since reading a few other threads here and on a few other blogs, my curiosity took over. lots of good info here, helped the start go a lot smoother.

I decided to use the Wraith skid and all requisite parts. A bit of a departure is the cantilever rear shocks due to a change in body selections. I had begun with the thought of a China JK, but I had a couple of goals this time.

1. Lower COG
2. Wide stance, improve stability
3. Reduce weight, hence the poly-carbonate ProLine p/n 3408-00, '66 Ford F-100. Not sure on the colors as of yet, won't be the Hay Hauler scheme though.

Adapting the skid to the SCX10 frame rails was way easier then I thought, Thanks to the great threads here.
Simplt shaved off the small molded reveal from the bottom of the skid, then clearance the sides so the fit snugly into the inner C channel of the rails.

Going with a Hobbywing ESC
RC4WD 35T Brushed set up
3s Lipo
Servo is just an HPI unit I had sitting around, using for mock up
Front shocks for now are Honcho units
Rears are Mini E-Revos

Rolling chassis in the shop

Body will sit a little higher.

Finished adjusting the links for the F-100 wheelbase and trimmed the body. Seems to fit the Wroncho really well. Looking for a happy medium as to body height. So far this seems to look the best and still allows for generous amounts of flex.

Thanks!
WB is set at 303mm /12". Also considering adding a real grill, something other than a decal. I need to clean up all the slots but here's what I've got so far. Way to rough so far. Think I may drop the bed as well.

your rear pinion angle seems to be too high? Grill looks cool.

Sore fingers! A little more sanding to go. I think it will add a little more scale appearance to the front end.

It's about time someone did this. I saw one of these S/C bodies in a LHS a few months ago and thought the same concept but they wanted way too much for the body so I passed. Looks good so far, looking forward to seeing it with color on it. I might have to order one and fix my boring Wraith.

BTW, like said above, the grill is sweet!

I never made a bumper before so thought I would back up a step and describe how I formed it. I laminated .040 strips of styrene to the thickness I felt was close enough for the depth of the photo was using for the model. Then filed, sanded, cut and its now pretty close. Dropped the bed tonight as well.

That stance with the body on the chassis is killer. Great styrene work as well.

Trying to get the chassis a little further. Still going for the low COG target. Made some slider plates for the battery and electronics. Seems pretty well balanced. Need to trim down the screws under the rt side slider, add the correct servo, motor and I might be test driving in the hilly terrain of my basement this weekend!.

Is it spring yet?

Fresh out of the paint booth. Going to try weathering this, like it was a "Barn Find" truck. Letting all the coats cure before I start sanding.

Outcome: Before sanding

the coats.....
blend of dark burgundy and copper;

Dusted on black.....I have no idea how this is going to turn out!

White under coat....

Top coat....

With grill and bumper mounted

Well nice old truck used to have a decent paint job.....then it sat in the sun a little to long. Gotta love those old barn finds!

Waiting for Led's, build interior and figure out a grill protector and rear bumper.
