RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Hey Guys, I've been out of the scaler scene for a few years now, (been off building 1:1's - Its scary how time flies !! ) Any case, I happened to be on here last month and heard the news of the new FJ40 Gelande II kit RC4WD was coming out with, and decided I absolutely had to have one. Ever since I sold my original Aoshima/Skynet FJ40 scaler I built back in 2009, I've always wanted to build another one (except with ALOT more scale details) except finding another Aoshima body that wasn't priced $650+ was nearly impossible !! :ror:. So I scored one of these awesome kits right after they were released, and it finally showed up the other night !! http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps04c7d8fe.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps6a11ef15.jpg Now, I won't go into the long, boring part of building the chassis (because we've all seen the numerous ones that have been built on here within the last month...) However, I do want to say that when I unpacked the Body, I was thrilled to see how much detail RC4WD put into making this look as scale as possible, with the full interior, and removable roof (something I ALWAYS wanted to do on the last one - but never did) "thumbsup" http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps74a94020.jpg Except, when I moved it, the Damn thing fell apart on me, and I had a pile of parts all over the table..!!:shock: http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps657d1c03.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...psacc13db5.jpg I can't wait to get going on this one ..!!, ( I've already got a TON of things planned, and already on order ) Stay tuned boys, this one should be good..!!"thumbsup" |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build http://youtu.be/8g_GeQR8fJo Really want to see this without the doors, I'm soon gonna be doing that mod soon. |

LOL - I wish it was as easy as in the video !! :lmao: I cut open the hood and doors with thread - (not the quickest, or easiest thing to do), but it worked perfectly, and it only needed minimal filing and sanding of the inner body lines. Just have to hinge them back up, and its on to paint. "thumbsup" |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Heres the parts pile as of now, It should double, if not triple by next week !! Part of my original Aoshima/Skynet build will live on with this reincarnation, which is the scratch built 1/8th scale "Hi-Lift" jack that I made for the original (its the only piece I have left from it). "thumbsup" http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps69e6bc05.jpg |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Heres my "Original" FJ40  It was sad to see her go, but I plan on going above and beyond with this build !! "thumbsup" http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/HPIM0333.jpg |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Glad to see you back in the game Chris, was always a fan of your builds. Like all the chopping you did. Will we be seeing a 2f under the hood ? |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build I just noticed the real scale bit missing from the RC4WD kit is the curled rear bumpers you have on your old FJ build , they really top it off. Got some planned for this build ? I haven't seen any on the current builds on here. |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Welcome back Chris! You came back at the right time. Excited to see you building again. Quote:

Thanks, pardonmyn00b actually already did what your talking about here to his awesome FJ, and I may end up doing it to mine as well. I do agree though, its the little scale touches like those, that make a world of difference with the overall build. |

Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Welcome back Chris. I'm glad that the Cruiser pulled you back in. Can't wait to see where this one goes... BTW, you are not allowed to sell this one once it's built. :lmao: John |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Not much of an "Update" so to speak, but I did get the chassis all built today, so now I can finally see what I'm really working with here. After seeing "northernerbill"s Awesome FJ build (which I love btw "thumbsup"), I'm stretching out the WB on mine as well. (5mm in the front, and 3mm in the rear) - it just didn't look right leaving it stock, the front looked too "stubby". Don't mind the sneakers its wearing now, I've got a set of Toyota "appropriate" 6 lug wagon wheels coming as we speak  http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps2b2acfb1.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps52f633df.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps494b250a.jpg And look at ALL that empty space up front....Hmmm... The scale possibilities are endless at the moment..!!! :lmao:;-) http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps445bbf5c.jpg More to come soon, stay tuned !! "thumbsup" |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Back looks like it could go back a touch more to me. |

I need one of these bodies I think. They should have sorted a build off to co-incide with the release date. |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Awesome to see you building again. Looks good so far, always loved how you hack a brand new piece up with no remorse....turning out into something awesome. |
Re: RC4WD Gelande II "Ultimate FJ40" Build Been super busy this past week, but finally had a little time this morning to get something done on this. After getting the interior pan in, I cut the door area out, and mocked up the seats and rollbar. Still need to fill in the inner door jamb area with some styrene, but its finally starting to get somewhere "thumbsup". Just need to figure out the best way to hinge the doors, yet also keep them removable. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps2lzewwva.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps96qf5yi0.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps2pstcatc.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...pspnfj1ooh.jpg |
