| OHO's RC4WD Gelande II
Received another pretty tasty box today... Got a bit worried when I saw Trailfinder 2 RTR, then opened the lid to find... (sorry, phone picture) Better get cracking then... I've now put grease in everything it should be in/on, I've put the 3 link and 4 link mounts onto the axles and made up all the links necessary. And yes, I'm aware I need a new mat QC let a bad bolt slip through in my G2 kit, just tightened it up, not tight and the head sheered clean off. Time to get in touch with RC4WD customer service and see how they respond. I know it's a pence item, but it also gives me a good opportunity to see what they're like for replacing dud parts. Also got the mounts on the tranny as well. Progress for tonight, shall do some more tomorrow provided I'm feeling a bit better. Actually surprised I even unboxed it today, feeling like absolute crap! |

Made a bit more progress today so far. Now I'm going for something to eat before I get back to it. |

I've got the same kit arriving this week What are you planning to run for motor and esc? |

I'm not 100% sure on electrics yet, definitely a HobbyWing 1060 ESC, unsure on servo and motor yet though, possibly an RC4WD 45t motor and a Savox or Hitec of some kind. I don't plan on getting this wet though, so it opens up my servo options a lot, to something with a bit more power without spending stupid amounts of money. Guess we can call it a roller as well |

That's just a second hand body I bought to chop into a pick up... Loved building it though, I'm even tempted to transplant the electrics from the TF2 into this tonight and give it a little run tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I have found their hardware to be on the cheap side. I purchase hardware from McMaster Carr and use those to replace the bolts that come with the kits. |

I will eventually no doubt replace the bolts for the whole kit with 12.9 HT steel ones, I'll never break one of those lol, same as what I use in my large scales, albeit a bit bigger for those. Just running into problem after problem with the pick up body, well, just with designing and making the rear of the cab. Ideally I don't want just a plain sheet of styrene matching the colour of the body, I wanted it to look scale, but I'm not paying the price of the pre made part from Italy and I'm having some real difficulties in making my own :( Given it a little test in the garden... I've taken the electrics from the TF2 just to run it. I doubt they'll be going back in. Fallen completely head over heels with the G2... Land Rovers are simply what I like and the chassis is fantastic as well, really smooth and aside from that one bolt head coming off, it's pretty faultless. I took a few pictures but didn't go overboard as she currently has no lid, until I get some new wire for the motor to ESC, so it looks a bit scruffy but it won't do soon. |

Firstly, yes, I'm aware it's not perfectly to scale... Not really too bothered about it though. Making progress, rear bed has been cut in the correct places, so it no longer flexes like it did... Well actually, it still does a tiny bit, but I already know were I need to cut.I was always planning on having a fake toolbox in the back anyway, so I'll just put that in a slightly different places to were I was originally going to have it, no big deal |

Bit more progress, done more fillering and sanding today, along with some primer, just to highlight mistakes and such much better, some bits I'm really not bothered about because they'll be covered up soon anyway. Still a few bits to do before it's ready for proper primer, but it's getting there I actually prefer this cab rear to the real scale jobby, for some reason... Looks better square rather than round IMO, I never did like the rounded one... Even on the full sized pick up. |

Little bit more done this morning, nothing major, just a bit fiddly. Replaced the lips (not sure what they're actually called) around the top of the cab, just need them to fully dry, add a touch of putty and get some more sanding done. Great day for spraying today as well, really warm in the air, but, I'm not rushing, if it means I have to wait a month for another good day, then so be it. Really enjoying building this and really liking how it's looking The right hand side one doesn't look straight on the picture, but it's actually perfectly aligned... Must be the angle of the picture. Comments are more than welcome. |

Well, I certainly won't lose it in the dark anyway... Sadly the paint is a little more on the pink side than I thought, but hopefully once I've got a few layers on it'll be nice. If not, a re-spray isn't too difficult. |

So I have spent most of this evening watching Breaking Bad through again while painting some of the finer details of the shell. Basically getting rid of Mark's self proclaimed 'bad' weathering job. Personally I don't think it was a bad effort, it's simply not the direction I want for this particular shell, so gone over it all with black acrylic. Really liking the hand brushed look, not sure if anyone else does, but I like to think it looks 'fixed in the field' so to speak. I don't want a fully beaten and battered bodyshell, but I like elements of realistic on the fly repair jobs and so on. So that's what I'm going for Also been doing work on the toolbox too, will possibly be doing a jerry can or two as well, not going all out on the accessories front, just some stuff to basically cover the back up a bit. Struggling for design ideas on the toolbox front however, got a basic one but it doesn't look overly realistic. More on that tomorrow! |

Decided to give the toolbox a go last night. Don't think it looks all that bad! Needs more coats of red obviously but, it's getting there, nice simple design that slides straight in. |

Noticed an issue with the floor of the shell today, I had made it a tad high to fit the spare wheel in, I'd also made the gap a touch big to actually mount the toolbox, so cut most of the floor out and made a new one for it, alls well and fitting snuggly. Been having some fun with the styrene as well, I was feeling creative. Decided alongside the fake toolbox, to have a fully working one, equipped with hinges, lock and bits inside it. It's not going to be huge, but it'll fit my wheelnut wrench and some wheelnuts, maybe body clips or something, pretty handy as they're annoying to carry in your spares box being small, same reason for carrying them in your pocket. Not as fancy or neat as some, but it's getting there slowly |

I'm now unsure about putting the wheel wrench in there though, it's a PITA to get back out, especially with the chain, so will have plenty of room, I have some ideas of what's going in there. Some more progress on it. |

Here's a couple of pictures, after yet another bed floor modification. I'm sure my ESC is getting bigger And yes I know the back of the cabs paint isn't amazingn (the black paint) it's not meant to be, that's kind of the whole point of this truck lol. I figured it would be obvious for those who are familiar with the style of build I tend to do, but apparently not so figured I'd just point it out as a few have mentioned it. |

Some outside pictures, having a little play in the garden. Again, this chassis does surprise me with it's level of articulation. It also genuinely didn't roll over after the first couple of leaning over pictures. I was rather surprised by that, I know my old one definitely did roll over everytime I took it over that particular rock. |
