Default First scratchbuilt body - '29 Ford Coupe Rock Rod

Here's something I've been working on for the past few weeks -- a 1929-30 Ford Model A coupe rock rod on SCX10 axles and tranny, with the STRC short wheelbase chassis. It's still very much a work in progress. I wanted to teach myself how to scratchbuild a body with styrene, because let's just say I have eclectic tastes when it comes to my scale rigs.

So, being my first attempt, this is far, far from perfect. Curves on the 1:1 are totally missed here and I would have liked to have made the body a little wider, but it was a great learning experience and the errors I made on this build will help me on my next project.

I purposely wanted the numbers to be hand painted on and to look a little rough, like some of the dirt track Ford Coupes I've seen on the Internet. The X's on the hood/bonnet represent "wins" the driver has had, much like pilots used to paint on their fighter planes during WWII for kills.

Anyway, here are a few pics:

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the kind words. I'm anxious to tackle the next body -- something more truck-like. ;)

Hi RiZZa -- it drives nicely, although I don't rock crawl with it. The short wheelbase would probably be its downfall on sharp slopes. I do mostly trail stuff with it.

I've thought about chopping the back off and turning it into a truck to extend the wheelbase a bit. The rear deck always kind of bothered me, because although I attempted to replicate the rear of a 1:1 coupe, I think the slope is a bit too severe.

I like it.

Do not modify this body. Make another one with a bed and longer wheelbase if needed.

Thank you shannwah, scrap and wesleyroy for the nice words! Scrap, no worries, I've left the body alone! ;) I'm really surprised this little guy has received the attention it has. Anyway, I hope it inspires other noobs like me to give scratchbuilding a try! Currently planning out my next build, but something more mainstream.
