Default SuperDrty's Silverado comp truck

So, I'm retiring Slimer (cage is getting tweaked, and as light as it is, it's top heavy) So after the test running of my new 2.2 comp truck (SuperDrty 2.2) I went ahead and started this Silverado. It's up and running as of this afternoon, after only about a week for the build.

Parts list:

1/8 aluminum chassis rails
Traxxas 2660 Big Bore shocks
Mini-T spings, w/ trimmed well nut lower spring cups
SCX10 stock skid (will eventually upgrade to TSS smooth skid)
SCX10 transmission(stock)
SCX10 cross members and bumpers/chassis ends
Revo rod end/ 8-32 threaded rod links (lowers sleeved with 1/4" brake line)
SCX10 Axles
Axial overdrive gears (front)
Scorpion high clearance knuckles
Axial CVDs
x2 AR60 short straight axle shafts (left over from the center pumpkin axle on my bouncer, they are the same length as SCX10 straight shafts)
Sidewinder 3 (with Castle 10amp BEC)
Holmes 35T
1300mah 3s battery
Solar D772 servo
SSD-RC 1.9 stamped beadlocks (donated from Slimer)
Proline 1.9 Super Swamper TSL XL (donated from Slimer)
Proline ext. cab 2007 Silverado body (shortened and painted on outside)

I was aiming for 11.75" wheebase, but ended up at 11.5"

I started with the body, marking out where it was getting cut

Taped together for gluing

Then used pieces of section cut out to glue the body back together using Shoe Goo

Glued together, and propped up

Painted, and propped up with tires sitting under it, and sitting next to SuperDrty2

For the chassis, I used the same rail design as SuperDrty2, but with one mod, mover the upper link mounts further apart to give the motor and tranny more breathing room

Ready to cut out

Cut and drilled (double sided tape was used to hold the 2 pieces together)

Got the axles together, and links made, was just waiting on the cross members to arrive

got the cross members installed, and made the electronics trays. I ended up using servo tape instead of screws to hold them to the chassis, we'll see how well it works

esc, bec, and receiver tray

Battery tray (that's grip tape in the center of it). I used zip ties to hold the suspension at full compression to check clearances

In a running state

Finished and running

The mandatory flex shot

With SuperDrty2

Should be able to side hill well

And weighed

Yeah, she's a lightweight!

Unfortunately I can't make it to the local comp next weekend to really test her out, so it's competition debut won't be until our border battle on Aug 15th.

Yes, the shoe goo holds up great!

On the other truck in these pics, the rear fenders take a lot of abuse withou any extra support, and they're staying on just fine. And I've beat another truck I shortened an f250 honcho cab on (Stubby) half to death, and the joints where I glued it together using a piece of lexan and shoe goo hasn't budged

So the way your doing it is butting 2 pieces together and the slapping, what 1 inch wide strip on top of the 2 pieces on the inside....Makes sense.
I have some Marine Shoo Goo,It should work the same right. It's is really sticky stuff.I've use it for repairs like cracks in the lexan bodies but never tried the method your using 2 halves...

That's exactly what I'm doing. the width of the backer piece varies though, depending on available space. All I've done is shorten bodies, and I've used pieces of the cut out pieces for said backers.

I use the tape on the outside to hold the pieces together, and then use those spring clamps (when I can) to hold the pieces down, it helps take out air bubbles between the pieces, which (in my mind) make for a better bond.

In this pic, you can see the backer pieces used on this body, large one across the roof, small one on the b-pillar, and the body sides.

Cool nice job.I see you didn't use to much nice and clean...
That would have been my first mistake if i did it,put globs globs of it and make a mess like i would do to cracks in lexan..

Both trucks look great. Being a Chevy guy, I'm partial to the Chevy.

Thanks

I don't consider myself partial to any brand, but I do own a 2011 reg cab Silverado. Finally had to build something with a reg cab GMT-900 body!

It's 0.019" Aluminum. I think that's what he posted on FB regarding this build.

Yep, it's 0.019 aluminum. I forget if that was at Menards or Home Depot. One had 0.019, and the other had 0.025

The body was shifting around on this truck, so to fix this I added a second post mount to each side in the rear. Didn't even change the weight of the truck

TSS smooth skid arrived this morning, and got it installed today

It won't be too long before I start building a narrowed AR60 axle for the front of this. Just finished building one for my 2.2 rig.
