Default C2 Custom Axial Jeep Nukizer 715

The few of you that know me in person know I'm not a big jeep fan.....except for the old Kaiser and J10 pickups. Since the announcement of this body kit I've been patiently waiting. Then someone posted that tower had them in stock and boom. Here we are...

Not like I needed another project but this was just too cool to pass up. Looks like this will be the first 1.9 build with the axial body. Some pretty sweet custom ones made along the way.

It will be full class 2 legal in case I get a wild hair and try to make it to a big scale comp this year. Plus I'd like something with more scale points but still performs.

From the second pic above you can see it's a 3 pc body. The grill and rear bumper are molded separately. Pretty smart since they take a lot of abuse and it gives them true 0.040" thickness vs the normal thin spots you get with the forming process. I rough fit the parts together and the fit is good, not perfect, but good. I'll have to do some massaging to get the grill perfect.
It comes with 2mm screws and nuts to hold everything together. Not sure if I'll use them or shoe goo. We'll see.

I need to play around with track width. I want this to really perform. But I want to be inside class 2 rules and the look of the rig has to be right. My narrowed wraith axle is at about 7.5" to 7.75" inside to inside on the wheels.

And the body is around 7.25" at the doors. I'll do some more work once my tires show up. See how far I want them tucked into the fenders and narrow the axle even more.

The parts list is mostly carryover from my current class 2 rig. But some new stuff will be coming.

Castle mmp and bec
Tekin roc412 3100 geared 9/56 running on 3s
Savox 1230 servo
Futaba 4pls
Castle sidewinder decased to run the winch
I'm going to see if I can build a bumper around the tziworld winch to replicate the 1:1
Narrowed wraith up front with axial unis and 36/14 gears
Scx10 in rear with 43/13 gears (planning on an SSD new rear housing when they come out.)
Scx10 trans with steel gears and likely CI 5mm outputs.
TSS Robby Gordon beadlocks in black.
Axial bfg krawlers with CI 4.5 lill nova (soft front, med rear)
Either MIp or Maxx driveshafts.
Scx10 frame rails
Custom tube work by me with 3/16" stainless tube

I'm still working out the color scheme but it will only deviate a little from the 1:1. Right now I'm planning on a drop bed so I can replicate the original spare location.

Sounds like a great project. Have you measured the wheelbase of the body?

Very curious about the size of the wheel well openings. Would like to know if the Swamper XLs or even 2.2s would fit without trimming the wheel wells too much.

I can measure it later tonight. I believe it's in the 12.3 to 12.5" range.

The bfgs I'm going to use are 4.7 so it'll be close to the xls. The only way 2.2s are fitting is with trimming or a tall ride height. More work to be done on the fitting and rubbing of tires.

I'm going to use 3.5" big bores so it won't have a ton of articulation. I've found I don't need a lot to be successful crawling.

I've heard about the release of this body, will have to follow. Any color choice yet?

These are the first pics I've seen of the body... shame it's a 3pc, but for strength reasons I'll concede. Are the tail lights separate as well?

It's actually more like 12". I plan to push the front axle forward as much as possible for approach angle.

Here is a 1.9 trepador tucked up in the fender.

Going to be gunmetal grey on the outside with some graphics and covered in flat.

Tail lights are embedded in the rear of the bed. There are lexan light buckets for the headlights.

The new skins arrived yesterday.

I mocked up the chassis, axles and suspension. I'm going to run it at 12.4" wheel base to push the front axle forward just a bit.

Here it is at full extension

And full bump. I plan to get the ride height just an 1/8"-1/4" above bump

Here's the current situation on the front axle. You can see how wide it is (this is after 7/8" removed).

It's about 1" wider than the rear. I decided to take about 3/8" more out so it will remain wider than the rear but fit better. Luckily it came apart easily with the screws removed. Now I need to cut and glue.

Whoa it's been a while since I've touched on this project. To be honest it's been on the shelf the whole time.

I decided to go a different route. Rather than make this my 1.9 trail comp rig, I decided to just do a scale build and use it for trail runs and g6 style events. Maybe a U4 race or two if my 1.9 u4 isn't ready yet ;)

Still going to base on an scx10 chassis. Going to be 3/16 Dom tubing roll cage with a drop bed and fill spare setup like the 1:1.
Mmp with tekin roc412 3100 still the plan.

Staying with the bfgs and Ci foams, but going with some 1.9 Delrin wheels I picked up from duuuude with locked up demon rings and scale black hardware.

Also got some ssd axles. Nothing I'm sure anyone hasn't already seen but I like them.

Front is ud gears, vvd cvs, locked up FI spool, axial chubs and ssd knuckles. Along with some brass tubes from ssd
Rear is ud gears, locked up FI spool and OT shafts (had to pound them in...super tight fit), ssd lockouts.

Now that my Brodozer project is almost done, time to see if I can get this one ready to run in a week and a half ;)

Picked up the curvy smw skid that is now available 3D printed. Using some stock scx10 frame rails.

Setting it up with the axles and tires

I almost picked up a ssd ox winch but just couldn't justify it. I had a brand new 3racing and a locked up rc upgrade motor. So I decided to just change the motor out and use this.

I did however pick up an ssd bumper and Fairlead. Super nice and I just love that there are mounting holes to use the 3racing or rc4wd warn winch. Dropping that stamped steel piece that the winch comes with is a significant improvement.

And looky here, the yeti interior seems to fit the Nukizer very well...

This is going to be a quick and simple custom build. The core fab will be the roll cage. I plan to have it able to remove the top. Just need to decide on paint colors now....hmmm baby blue with a black canvas top....

I was messing around with a cms for quite a while and then I just said screw it and put the 4 link and servo on the axle. It's actually pretty easy with the ssd axles. You just have to drill an extra hole. The rear factory one on the scx servo plate is in the right spot.

Also built up some big bores for front and rear.

So tonight it was time to start on the cage. Like I said, it's going to be simple and straight forward.

I need to figure out how I'll retain the body. Screws or Velcro...we'll see.

I plan to make the roof removable so that will definitely have to screw on.

I wasn't joking when I said this would be a quick one. Chassis is fabbed, body and chassis are painted. Assembly is do e. Byron here we come.

I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Thanks man. I used 3/16" stainless tubing that was 0.020" thick wall. I used safety silv 45 and a mapp torch. I normally work with 3/16" Dom tubing. This stainless was really too thin for the solder I was using. Got too much heat into the steel trying to melt the 45. If I had some 56 it would have been better.

It's not too hard once you start and get the right tools and material

Where is the best place to buy the safety silv and solder?
