Reign K2-4 9.5" wb Pajero...er..Bronco build

Well since it is nearly impossible to get hold of one of those damn Landy hard bodies (even with Kaetwo helping me look) and I have had this Pajero metaltop hard body sitting on my garage collecting dust, for about 2 years now, I thought I would finally use the 'jero to build up my k2-4 chassis.

So I gathered up my K2-4 scale chassis, TLT axles & parts, Pajero body, 1.9 hummer rims & BFG MT tires, Tamiya diesel leaf springs, Diaz shackles, and some other random delrin, stainless tube and hardware. I'm still waiting on my RC4WD R2 trany, but I though I could take the extra holiday time and start building my K2-4 scale rig with the 9 1/2" wheelbase the Pajero body requires.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4a.JPG

I decided on this build to do a leaf sprung rear and a 3 bar w/panhard front suspension (just like the real Pajeros... HAHAHA what ever). So I marked & drilled the chassis rails to accept the TLT suspension stays.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4b.JPG

For the rear I used the 2-hole suspension stays, one on each side, for the front of the leaf mount.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4c.JPG

And the 1-hole suspension stays, one on each side, for the rear shackle mount.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4d.JPG

I mounted the front of the leaf to the upper hole. The lower hole I may use in the future for an anti-wrap type link.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4e.JPG

At the rear of the leaf I used some Diaz shackles and fabbed some revolver-type blocks from delrin.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4f.JPG

I attached the shackles onto the leafs
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4g.JPG

And attached the revolver blocks to the shackles & rear suspension stay.

To attach the axle to the leaf springs I cut a channel into a block of delrin and cut the block to length.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4k.JPG

I used a screw to hold both the block into place and the leaf into the block.

On to the front axle...

Looks to be off to a nice start ;)

Any chance of the delrin parts for this build becoming ReignRc products?

OK now the front axle. A 3-bar w/panhard and coil springs.

First I attached some suspension stays to the chassis. A 2-hole stay to the passenger side of the chassis and a 1-hole stay on the drivers side.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4m.JPG

Then I took a pair of Associated front buggy springs and simply screwed them to the axles.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4n.JPG
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4o.JPG

I made up two identical links using some of the TLT threaded shafts and rod ends. I then attached them to the suspension stays (one on the drivers side and one to the lower hole on the passenger side stay)
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4p.JPG

I took one 1-hole suspension stay and one 2-hole suspension stay and cut the outside tab off each with a dremel.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4q.JPG

I attached the suspension stays to the axle and then the links on the chassis to those stays.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4r.JPG

I then made a shorter link from a TLT threaded shaft and rod ends to fit the 3rd link of the suspension and attached it as well.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4s.JPG
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4t.JPG

I drilled holes to coincide with the holes in the axles and with screws, mounted the springs to the chassis, as I did with the axles.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4u.JPG

Now for the Panhard rod. I again made a link using TLT parts for the Panhard rod. I attached one end to the servo plate mount hole on the axle and for the other end I attached it to a TLT steering ball connector that I mounted to the chassis.
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4v.JPG
http://www.reignrc.com/misc/K2-4build/k2-4w.JPG

I then cut some stainless steel tube to length to sheath all of the links.

So here is what I have gotten done on the long holiday weekend. A great start of I say so myself. Hopefully I can find the time to finish it real soon.

Next I think I will be figuring out how I am going to mount the shocks. Stay tuned Scale addicts."thumbsup"

On the pan hard the screw that goes into the axle is going to break of. I did the same exact thing and when it rolls, the side to side motion breaks the axle housing. Just put a longer scew in. ''thumbsup"

CorneLL 12-27-2006 02:38 AM

very cool. i wanna build a scale rig to go along with my hi lift

Marco968 12-27-2006 06:29 AM

Very cool nice work. Looking forward to seeing more.

Have you ramped it yet??? Im interested in seeing how it does with those shackles??? Great looking rig Pinch you and K2 have been busy"thumbsup".

Sparky J 12-27-2006 08:47 AM

Wow, nice job pinch. So since you used springs in the rear you wont need a panhard, is that correct? Are you mounting your steering on the chassis? I'll be starting my new landy build shortly, sooo addicting:lol:

@tw!ll 12-27-2006 09:35 AM

That is a sweet looking ride. Love the short wheelbase. Can't wait to see more.

PinchFlat 12-27-2006 09:40 AM

Thanks guys...

I was thinking it would snap on a hard side hit, so I am going to make an aluminum brace for it... And a longer screw wouldn't hurt (or so my wife says  )

I have... I tried to weight the chassis a bit when I did it and it scored 315 on the 30 deg ramp. I wonder what it will do when it is complete with shocks, body, and all?

Yes no need for a panhard in the rear but an anti-wrap bar will help the rear axle from twisting forward and back. yes the steering will be mounted on the chassis... got to look as scale as possable. Scales are more adicting then anything else.

You're not kidding. I'm already trying to figure out the next couple builds I want to do. :)

bigred 12-27-2006 09:57 AM

Thats great!!...Clean fab.

I like the way you mounted your coils, but it seem's like the coil good come loose.

4u2nv 12-27-2006 10:15 AM

Excellent work on this one... I really like the delrin spring blocks for the axles. What did you cut the channel with?

kaetwo 12-27-2006 10:18 AM

Holy Shat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well that puts my scale rig to sham.

Well done!!!!!!!!!!

I can see that the K2-4 chassis builds are going to be off the hook crazy with all the build ideas you guys come up with.

DAAAANG that look good!!!
