I believe it is time to start making hinges. So, I thought I would start with the windshield hinges. Like most of my parts on this truck they are "rough" and will need a little bit of smoothing. I've said it before and I will say it again "these small parts are difficult to make". I can totally appreciate all those who make these tiny parts. Enough said. Here is how the hinges have come out.

And, I thought I would throw in an image of the headlight bezel hanging on the grill.

I also made the mounts to secure the top to the tub.

Thanks for looking.

With the top sides mounted to the tub, I thought it was time to make the "top". I decided to try the vacuum forming again like I did for the hood. This time I made the mold or Buck out of foam instead of wood. This proved to be much easier to shape but I was curious how it was going to hold up to the hot styrene. All in all it turned out really good. On to some images.

It wasn't super flat so I added some bracing underneath. this helped considerably to flatten it out.

That looks a little better.

And, the obligatory on the chassis shots.

I think that pretty much finishes the "rough in" part and now I can concentrate on some finishing, details and interior work.

Thanks for looking!

Small update. I've got a pile of tub ribbing that needs a home.

Found a home!

Also made up the side steps.

I wasn't sure how to make the louvers for the hood and side but I came up with a possible solution.

Thanks for looking!

I really like how clean and simple the chassis turned out, great fab work and very nice attention to detail on the body!

Well done Sir.

Thanks! Unfortunately the updates might be fewer and farther between.

Thanks for the kind words. It's really all about the detail but it's killing me. I built those louvers two different ways, took me all day and I'm still not 100% satisfied.

I felt it was time to continue making hinges and I wanted to have a go at doing some other detailing. First thing is to grab my trusty Land Cruiser catalog. This thing has been great! I know, I know, I have the internet with enough images to go around the world twice but I like the feel of paper in my hands. Besides, it has a full break down of all the parts.

As you can see, the catalog has some great detail to aid in my attempt at door panels and here are the results.

And a small pile of hinges.

Hinges on the doors.

To give you an idea of how tedious this is, at least for me as an amateur, this is all I accomplished in probably 8 hours of work.

I now have a pile of parts that are begging to be assembled.

I have been hesitant in doing any final assembly but it's probably time to start some so that I can move on to final detailing.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks! It's still a little wavy but I think vacuum forming was the way to go.

Very small update. And, I think that is the way it might be for awhile we will have to wait and see. I worked on detailing the dash. I'm pretty pleased with it so far however, I think some of the knobs look a little large but I think I can live with it.

Thanks for looking!

This build is now officially going at a glacial pace. However, I need to keep moving forward as time allows. I wasn't happy with the way the louvers came out so I went ahead and changed them and, I am quite pleased with the results.

I also built the front bumper. I made it out of copper mainly to see if I could pull off making one. I do not feel it will be rugged enough for any serious off-road excursions but I hope to keep the shiny side up on this one so maybe it will be tough enough.

Thanks for looking!

I decided to give the bumper a spritz with a color I think closely matches the stock bumper. Now I am very pleased with the way it looks.

Well it's been nearly a year since I started this build and I figured it's time to get a move on.The roof I vacuum formed but it came out quite wavy so I placed some styrene sheets progressively smaller to the top and applied filler and proceeded with shaping. I also installed some rain gutter around the top edge. Here are the results so far.

Thanks for looking!

So it's back to work on this beast and I have come to the conclusion that it is really close to being ready for at least a little primer to see what finish work the body needs before paint. But first I went ahead and made some small detail pieces to get back in the grove of working with styrene.

It was brought to my attention that the windshield area needed to be increased by making the frame a little narrower near the top. I hesitated doing this since I had already put on the molding but later decided that it would look better with the change. I also made the windshield wiper motor cover.

The start of the hood and windshield hooks along with hood hinges.

And, to finish off the weekends work, foot pedals.

Thanks for looking!
