TF2 SWB Jeep

I bought a TF2 SWB kit and got a Nikko body fairly cheap. It was missing a few parts so I improvised.

Mind you, I only purchased the body. The chassis it is on was for display only.

I tested some primer and started to fab a rollcage out of 3/8 SS tubing.

The back seat was missing so I put in a deck plate that I made out of a battery cover from an ERTL RC.

Completed the roll cage and put on some paint. I am horrible at painting and very disappointed at the color outcome. I may strip it off and try again. The roll cage looks odd and will probably get etched and painted.

Plans for the future include:
Flat black roll cage with vinyl roof
Flat black fenders and visors
Front winch bumper
Interior modded and painted(no place for driver's legs as is)

I like where you are going with this, but that tubing has to go. 3/8, or .375" would be 3.75" at 1:1 scale. 3/16, or .1875" is better option as it scales out to be pretty close to 1.75" which is a common roll cage tubing size.

I agree ^^^^^ tubing is to large and most likely why you think it is bit off.

Too large of tubing? Hmmm...If the trucks were all actually 1/10 scale it would reason. The racing roll cages I helped build were 2 to 2 1/2". A cheap stock cage is smaller. I appreciate the feedback though. Maybe the updated pics will make it seem better. Let me know what you think.
P.S. - 3.75" tubing may be best anyhow. You haven't seen me drive! LOL

I HAD to change that awful color. Still waiting for the interior to dry. I will update later. The front bumper was altered before I got the body. A new one is coming. Trying to decide if fabbing or buying one.

Ok. I checked and 1.75 to 2 inch tubing is what we used depending on the application. I really don't want to make a new cage but I may just to get back to scale-ish. Sigh...
Again, thanks for the input and opinions. Sometimes we all need an outside eye to catch that which we don't.

Mounted the body. I liked the flip up design and it was easy to accomodate.

Spare tire mounted. Not the same tire yet but it is the same size.

For the roll cage I would suggest lowering it a bit, even off you don't swap out the tubing. Mine is 3/16"

I built this body a while back, it needs another chassis/axles running gear.

I will be changing the roll cage when I go back to work tomorrow. I have 1/4 tubing I will use. May still be a bit large by some standards but it is what I have and closer to scale. For now I am doing what I can...like two tone seats and next to extend the steering column so the driver I hire from Amazon can reach the wheel lol.

Update: I didn't change the roll cage, but I did shorten it some. I am not the greatest TIG welder and I was getting a bit flustered with the thin 1/4" tubing so I put it aside for now. When I get out and pick up some solid 3/16 rod, I will get around to changing it. For now this will do. No vinyl top yet, but I have time off soon so maybe I will work on that in my spare time.
I extended the steering column and am thinking of adding a micro servo to it and binding to my steering. Perhaps when I hire my new driver.

I did change the body color. I like this much better. Dusted the burgundy with Satin Black and re-clear coated it. I'm happy with it. I fabricated a front bumper. Not the greatest, but again, I'm pretty happy with it considering my welding skills.

I scuffed the shocks and etch-primed them then hit them with the burgundy paint, installed some acorn nuts and flattened the paint on the wheels to match the body color. The acorn nuts are a cheap way of hiding the axle threaded ends. They look ok.
