Got the side guards bolted on.
 photo 20160918_211630_zps9kvutvvi.jpg

The bend was a little to close on this one. Fortunately I had other hardware. Just need to hit it with some black.

No measurements. Got real lucky here.

They seem to be very sturdy. Will prolly add some washers to the inside just to be safe.

Keeping to the exterior you may have noticed awhile back I did away with the metal gutter guard I was using for a tie down platform atop the adventure rack. It worked real well but I had a forgotten memory come back to me and wanted to try it out.

Always good to lose a few ounces up top.

after playing around for a bit, I had this.

Not being too put off I started on the real thing. Using the same stained wood as the window boxes I tried to get a feel for how it would look and sit.

The knot is a simplified version of the Japanese square lashing. Holds super well.
 photo 20160721_213144_zpsszhod7ta.jpg

It fits pretty much anywhere you want to put it on the adventure rack. I slid it all the way forward.

Made a smaller one for the rear portion of the rack.
 photo 20160918_225321_zpsynglsu50.jpg

The open spaces created are odd and I really like them.

Need to rethink the tarps and a light bar (when I get one) relocation do to how the wooden rack overhangs the windshield. All in all, I'm super happy with how it came out.

The new kicks arrived

For the love of decals.

Ribbing on the inside of tire.
 photo 20160921_121506_zpsksa56fis.jpg

Beautiful tire. Stock foams are certainly rugged enough for most rigs, if you can mount the tire with them I got frustrated, gave up, and put the CI Deuces Wild foams from the Tomahawks in them. I was then able to mount them to RC4WD stamped steelies but the bead would not hold properly and kept sliding out. For now they are on some Axial rims. They fit well on the Landies but white wheels didn't look right to me. Think I'm going to try and find a place to sand blast them for me then paint 'em black. We'll see
 photo 20160921_121420_zpssltn8wev.jpg

The wood sand ladders along with the wood racks seemed a bit much. So I traded them in for the RC4WD ladders (part#Z-S0276). They look nice and are light weight but very flimsy and wont be bridging any gaps. still, they need to be secured to the rig some how.

I came up with this.
Made from some elastic cord, a couple coil springs and some small styrene tubing painted yellow.
 photo 20160921_201621_zpspl3cgd8o.jpg

Not sure what to call it, but it works great.

Also got around to looking at the reception issues. Come to find out, there were no antennae! Had to fix that. I started with the thinnest music wire I could find and glued a rather thick thread to one end of the rod.
 photo 20160920_164620_zpsbisnwptc.jpg

I twisted the rod whilst keeping the thread taught. Creating a nice spiral.
 photo 20160920_164745_zpspfzfkpjh.jpg

I brushed glue the length of the rod to hold the thread at every point.
 photo 20160920_170731_zps1ja98ysl.jpg

These clasps will hold the wire and help mount it to the body.
 photo 20160920_214840_zpsdecgmdui.jpg

After the glue dried I sprayed the wire with Plasti Dip. After that dried it was ready to be mounted.
 photo 20160920_204450_zpsjg8uhn3q.jpg
 photo 20160920_204512_zpshrebijvf.jpg

Wish the clasps had a slightly lower profile.
 photo 20160921_182037_zpsqz9tmlop.jpg

Gluing the whole thread will allow resizing if wanted later with little to no hassle.
 photo 20160921_182003_zps77s8fm1f.jpg

I also wanted a bit more range. After doing some homework I landed on the 102" CB antenna. This one will need a proper mount though.
Slightly larger diameter wire was used. These clasps are the only thing I have at the moment that will hold the wire well enough. So they make a return.
 photo 20160920_221843_zpstuzh1vse.jpg

For the bracket, I thought this might work. Took some of the large rectangular tubing and cut off a small piece. Then cut that piece in half at an angle.
 photo 20160920_214738_zpsmd8gxmpo.jpg

Once I made the back for the bracket I drilled all the holes for mounting.
 photo 20160921_103345_zps6xcucr1j.jpg

Pulled the casing off the smallest wire I could find then glued it to the music wire.
 photo 20160921_133248_zps7ceg8apd.jpg

All assembled. Just needs to be painted.
 photo 20160921_103020_zps26n4swfc.jpg

There we go....
 photo 20160921_133548_zpsxuuqmkpw.jpg

All mounted up.
 photo 20160922_170114_zpsabpariev.jpg

The truck is officially a safety hazard. The 10" antenna can be very hard to see at times and have had a couple real close calls already with my poor lil eyeballs
Not super scale by any means but I feel they do add a bit.

On my c/b antenna I warmed up the wire with a lighter and then pushed a plastic BB from an air soft gun onto the tip to keep the eyes safe ..
