Default Project Christmas Hilux "Twuggy"

My 4 year old son always looks at my phone when I'm on RCC and he wanted his own "twuggy" for Christmas. He's been bashing an old Honcho all summer so it's time to get going on this for him.

I did some trading and wound up with a Speedweigand chassis and a Hilux cab.

He loves the pinched nose cabs so I thought I would give it a shot.

It was learning experience but thanks to searching threads on here I think it's coming along pretty good. I have a few more layers of filler to get it just right.

Found a couple cab backs so had to put one on too

Here's how it looks so far.

The chassis was made for a clod cab so the front bumper was getting in the way. A little meeting with the chop saw took care of the problem.

Once I get ready for the final powdercoat I'll tack on a stinger.

I wanted a different look in the front so I'm going to mount a 4" light bar under the hood to replace the grill

Awesome project for your son. I like the light bar/grill. It fits there nicely

Thank you! The problem is he usually helps me work on trucks at night so I have to work on this one after he goes to bed. I have to hide the parts so he doesn't see them

I'm still waiting on some parts for the front axle. So far I have

-Creation Fab short splined delrin tubes

-KillerKustomz shortend shafts

-VP knuckles and chubs

The light bar would be in the way if I wanted to mount a winch on the bumper so I'm going to improvise.

I'm planning on converting a 7950 to a servo winch and I'll mount it on a custom cms/winch plate.

For now I picked up some 1/4" rubber grommets. I'm on the look out for some hard rubber/plastic ones.

Just drill a 1/4" hole through the bumper...

Place your grommets in and your done. I plan on switching to a harder compound due to pressure from the winch line. line

Good luck hiding the build. I almost got caught building my son's blizzard. I was tinting the windows and he walked in but didn't see it.

I know it's hard. Luckily for me my RC workbench and area in general looks like I should be in an episode of hoarders

What?!?! Can I pass along my dad's email address so you can make him make me a new truggy? I'd prefer a Tundra but hey, beggars and all that jazz... but yes, please hit my old man and tell him to get to workin!!

In all seriousness, that's just the coolest gift. My son took over my SCX10 and I moved on to a new Wraith project when he wanted the SCX for himself...nothing like this awesomeness though!!

Well I'm not Santa but pass along his email address and I'll see what I can do!

Originally I had a new Deadbolt RTR (in the for sale section now) he was going to get. Then I thought about the things my dad has made for me over the years and how much more they meant to me than an off the shelf item.

Two things in particular come to mind... The first was a discharge light set up for my NiMh batteries back in the day. The second was a snowplow for my Clodbuster. Over the years I've bought and sold many RC items but I still have the discharge lights, snowplow, and Clodbuster sitting on the shelf.

This was my first time pinching and putting a cab back in. It was actually fun to do. I'm pretty happy with the results. I probably went overboard on the reinforcement inside the cab but I'd like it to hold up.

With this being for a child I didn't think conventional paint would be the proper choice. I am going with the matte black hood of course.

Getting the mask lines in place

You'll notice over spray on the rest of the body but with what I'm going to do next it won't matter.

I'll update next week with the end results. It won't be everyone's cup of tea but I'm hoping it turns out as good on the body as I was planning...

Pretty sure you can't go overboard reinforcing a hard body for a 4yr old. Sweet gift for sure!

are you spraying it with bedliner?

Your probably right. I still have to weld a stinger on it to give a little more protection.

Nope its not bedliner!
