I wanted to remove the spare tire case that came on the body, and replace it with an actual spare tire.

With some help from guys on this forum I learned that the mounting screw for the case was located behind the "Jeep" sticker on the case. After removing the sticker it was a simple matter of removing one screw.

For now, I fabbed a simple bracket to hold the tire.

And, here's the spare!

I also wanted to block the view through the front grill, so I got online looking for a radiator. I couldn't find one that would work, but I found a YT video of a guy who goes by "backyard builder" with an idea for building one using tie wraps.

I cut a piece of styrene to fit and just glued tie wraps to it and trimmed the ends.

I then just mounted the piece behind the grill. Not a lot of room back there, but this fit and hides the electronics behind the grill.

Ambis asked about some shots of the whole truck, so here are a few bench shots.

I'm thinking about using the gcm kit too. Is your body mounted or just sitting on chassis. Can the body go any lower? Reason I ask is the gap between the bottom of the grill and top of bumper looks funny to me. My scx10 Jeep Wrangler came thay way too simply lowering the body post cured that tho.

The body is mounted. I'm not sure what I think about ride height. I wanted it to ride a little lower as well, but with my current setup (electronics tray and velcro thickness) I am as low as I can go for now.

What I like about this ride height is that as long as I keep the standard fenders on, this height gives me pretty nice wheel clearance.

It will probably be next Spring before I address paint and body mods, because of the weather. For now I have decided to go with a setup that will work with the fenders.

I have looked at a few 1:1 JKs and the gap between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the fenders is common in the rigs I have seen.

Here are a couple of photos of one of the 1:1s I am using as a guide for this build. They aren't very good photos (cropped to delete license plate), but they kind of show the gap.

If you look at the radiator in the second photo you will see that it looks pretty similar to the one I made.

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it.

I installed Proline Powerstroke Scaler shocks, front and rear. This is the first set of upgrade shocks I have purchased and I like the look and feel.

I got some wheels, rings, hubs and hardware from LockedUp RC. I was really impressed with the quality of these wheels and how easily they installed.

Thanks for the detailed pics and ideas of your build! I've had a New Bright JK and TJ since '10, and have the TJ/LJ finished, so I'm getting ready to get back to the JK. I took quite a bit of time cutting the fenders down (flattie front) and getting rid of the bumpers, making sure the cuts were as perfect as possible. I was researching the same GCM kit you are using and found your thread. I think it works perfect, allowing for an uncut interior. I'm kinda tired of my wraith so the electronics and axles will be donors. Hopefully I'll get to see your rig down in the Springs at one of the Palmer Park gatherings.

Thanks!

Since my last post I painted the removable roof and roll bar. I also made and installed rear side windows. I just purchased another JK body so I have a backup in case I mess up when I start doing more cutting.

I will check out the Palmer Park gatherings. I'm always looking for people to crawl with!

Here are a couple new shots of the JK as it sits now.

I was thinking about using one of those on my rig. I messaged them to see if it would fit but they didn't know if it would or not, so I didn't get one. Would be nice to know though.

Looks really great, thinking about getting such a body too. Can you let me know how you mounted the body to the chassis? I could not see any info on that.

Thx...

I have the same question. Looks like velcro in the rear, from a photo I saw. Hoping to have screw on body mounts instead though
