Default The non comp Scalier Cruiser

A few months ago, I bought an RC4WD Cruiser body. Since I own a 1:1 FJ40, I had to have one. A couple years ago, I modified a RC4WD Yota front axle but never did anything with it. I wanted an offset pumpkin like on a 1:1 FJ40 for that build but never used it. This was before RC4WD came out with the Yota II.

Chino63's 1.9 FJ40

Anyhow, I'm finally making use of it.

Since this won't be a scale comp truck, I decided to straightened a vintage Tamiya Hilux frame that I will never use. This will also include a bunch of RC4WD parts as well as some custom fabricated parts just for fun.

Here's what I have so far:

Vintage Tamiya Hilux chassis rails
RC4WD Cruiser body
RC4WD Yota axles with XVD's
RC4WD Hammer T-cases
HPI gear reduction
TSS Hutchinson beadlocks
Axial 1.9 Falken Wild Peak tires
Chino63 Mil-wrap leafs
Tekin 35T
Castle Sidewinder ESC

Here's the start and mock up for WB fitment to the body.

What is going on here you ask? More on that later.

Made this today, it's not too pretty but after some paint and dirt, you wont be able to tell. The Yota housing is fairly strong and there's a lot of meat where I drilled and tapped it for the anti wrap bracket.

This is one to watch. I really, really like the offset rear axle.

Thank you gentlemen, it will be slow going but unlike a few of my other projects, this one will get finished.

I know the anti-wrap bracket looks big but when it's all together and paintted, it will most likely get overlooked so I don't care.

I did get some time in on this today but most of it was spent staring at it and figuring out where things will be placed.

A little info on the current mods:

The HPI gear reduction has been modified from 7.4:1 to 9.25:1 by turning the motor holes into slots and running a smaller pinion. I did this on my green Unimog and have had absolutely no issues with it. It is very compact and allows me to place it really low in the chassis to help offset the weight of the body.

The rear leaf mounts were relocated 12mm rearward on the straightened rails to increase the wheelbase to 11.75". The wheel wells will be lengthened to accommodate the larger tires.

Eventually I would like to add a fake engine but not sure if I'd go with a V8 or a more traditional 2F.

Love you too Andy

Had some time to work on this again. I started by welding the milled case bodies together.

I made the intermediate shaft that will transfer power to the second t-case out of some 5mm chromoly rod I have and the transmission output from a piece of 6061 aluminum rod.

.... and assembled.

It was too tall and hit the bottom of the tunnel so I cut it down and made a plate to seal it up. The reverse rotation won't be an issue, I'm using pretty much the same setup in my Unimog (portals instead of the second t-case).

The transfer case is pretty much done. However, I will probably trim the top some more. I wanted to keep the two alignment pins but I think I can make do with only one, a new plate will be made.

Dual cases? Why didn't you just call Marlin for his adapter plate?

Well, I'm finally updating this because I finally did some more work to it.

I did end up chopping more off the t-case to fit under the tunnel. I made a skid plate for the t-case, motor/GRU attachment and was able to get the motor/GRU installed. The plate next to the motor is just big enough for the FXR, receiver and is also the rear attachment for the steering servo.

Because I already made the t-case crossmember, I decided to make reliefs on the skid plate to use the same attachment hardware as the crossmember. Everything is designed for maximum ground clearance (2.75" under skid) and easy trail repair if something should break.

The anti-wrap shackle mount is part of the t-case crossmember. I will add some supports to the crossmember down the road if the leverage from the anti-wrap creates a problem.

With the drivetrain all in, I can now make a battery tray. The anti-wrap bar is angled slightly to the right and allows just enough room for a 2200mAh battery to sit between it and the frame rail. This is taking forever to build.
