Default BadWagon | C2 Hilux Truggy

Yes it's true, I'm finally posting a build thread. This is my first build that I think deserves one so here we go...

I got a G6 kit for Christmas and that's what I'll be using for the base of my Truggy. I've wanted one for quite sometime, I love hard bodies and I need a C2 rig.. So this was an easy choice in direction.

As with all of us I didn't wait I dove right in and assembled the chassis.

Stock sucks so I knew it wouldn't stay this way for long. Christmas night I spent ordering parts for the build.

Here's the list so far:

G6 Kit
ROC 3100 kv
MMP
DoubleD RC:
- SCX Rear Link Plates
- Shock Drop Hoops (plates)
- Derlin Lower links
- Servo Winch Plate
SSD
- D60 Axles Housings
- Knuckles & C-Hubs
- Steering Linkage
- Servo Mount
Axial
- OD gears up front, HD gears in the back
- metal trans gears
- AX10 Universals
- 1.9 BFGs
VP
- TI upper Links
- Hubs
MIP driveshafts
FI spools
Knockoff Methods
CI dual Stage Foams
RC4WD Mojave Cab
Tamiya Round headlight grill and bits
N00b fenders and Radiator

Here's some progress...

Todd stopped by and gave me a few pointers as this is my first SCX10. He also sweet talked me out of my green yota body. LOL. So I picked up as many goodies from him as I could.

DD Plates on.

Also happened to get a few boxes of parts...

Next up were the SSD Axles and goodies.

A note here about the FI Spools and the SSD axle housings. You need to use the axial locker bolts as the heads are just a wee bit shorter and the ones provided with the FI Spools just made contact with the housing.

Mmmmmmm scale hardware....

I banged out the links and threw on some proline wheels and TSLs... We have a roller.

I don't know why, but ya gotta have them... Flex shot...

I had to order a body since now I didn't have one (yota thief)... The parts arrived and I had to see what it was gonna look like.

The straight steering links hit the D60 diff cover. So the bent links arrived the same day as the body.

BAM we have throw

So after waiting for what seemed like forever, my knockoff methods arrived today.

I'm surprised at how nice these are. They went together easily and without issue. I had planned to use LURC rings but I need to ream them out to fit the 2mm hardware. No biggie but I didn't have time to do it today.

So I mounted them up with the hardware and rings they came with.

These wheels are a bit narrow, but I don't mind it... Yet. We'll see how these perform on the rocks.

Nuts.

And all mounted and on the chassis.

Plopped the body on for giggles.

So now that I have the wheels, I can start on the cab.

My plan is to pinch the front, close in the back, shave below the grille, add lights, etc.

For the interior I'll be cutting up a dinky kit. It has to clear the trans, and as this is a comp rig I'm not going to move the trans under the hood and use a transfercase. I thought about doing it, but I'll save that for another rig. I think it'll move my COG up too much.

Since the rear axle is exposed I'll add some drum brakes, cables, etc as well as an exhaust of some sort.

Don't worry that stock bumper won't be part of the finished truck, I'm just using it to hold up the body.

As for paint... The final color I'm not yet decided on, but I am going to layer colors underneath so that down the raod, after its had some rock love I can sand it down and have a weathered look. I'd like it to start pretty and get ugly over time.

Cheers!

Whats the point if the dd plates just lots of options for tunning?

The shock plates are for ease of tuning your suspension with plenty of options. Unfortunately to be a C2 legal truggy the shocks have to mount to the rear cage, so I won't be able to use the rear plates.

The lower plate for the links allows the rear upper links to have more leverage and the rear axle to bite. This will make the crawler have more traction and climb/crawl better.

It also allows me to tweak my pinion angle easily.

LOL, yeah I'll start cutting soon. Most likely a little bit this morning. Just deciding on exactly how I want to go about it.

You guys make this look so easy on the interwebs...

Now to make the cuts that count, and will allow the fenders to move in...

Ok so I made the little relief cuts too large, I can fix 'em with a little body work. Over all I'm happy. The width is at 135mm in the front and the max cab width is 178mm so I'm well within the 2/3 rule for class 2. I may bring it in a little more. We'll see after I stare at it a bit.

I also cut down the axles a few threads so I could get the Rogue Element hubs on. These of course will need paint and detailing.

Any feed back on the cab is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Wish I had photos of my dove nosed Clod body I had in 2009. I cut the hood lines and cut small acute triangles out of the hood. Two part epoxy filled the rough spot. Model car body putty would be safer for the plastic though.

Either way the cuts look fine. I'm not a super 1337 builder but you've got it down man. Don't worry.

Oh I'd like to see that clod body. Sounds cool. I love clods.

I considered cutting out the hood and sectioning it from there, but I decided I wanted to try and keep the hood lines. This was the best way I could figure out to do it.

Now I've got to sand the inner edges of the cut down so it's cleaner. They are a little "wavey". It won't be hard to fill in the relief cuts. I'll just add a little styrene and putty.

Thanks for the props!

Comp rules state that the pinch can't be tighter than 2/3 the width of the max width of the cab.

The rules are on the SORCCA website.

http://sorrca.com/rules/2015rules.pdf

I'm glad I read through the rules as I wasn't gonna cut my chassis. But reading through them I found that the rear frame needs to be cut off and the shocks must mount to the cage... So I spoke in length with the guy who's building my cage and it'll be what I want as well as C2 legal.

Awesome thanks. Yeah I need to read through the rules so I know the different classes. Yeah I'm thinkingredients I wanna build a truggy to but I kinda want to dove tail the bed and cage the inside. But I need to read the rules. I can't wait to see the cage

Me too. I'll post up some info on it when I have a bit of time. We are heading to the mountains for a few days. Sucks because my wraith just broke the front axle housing and my scaler has been torn down. I'm crawler-less.

Oh your Wraith broke its own front axle, huh? Hahah.
