The happy bug (Class 1)

I've never built a Class 1 rig before, but I've had plenty of ideas over the years and I always end up coming back to a bug. One of my favorites has been Sam's baja bug (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...-baja-bug.html), but I didn't want to build an exact replica

I'm starting with a Toyzuki G10 chassis and light weight skid:

Add a classi cut customs bulldog transmission with Rcbro light weight gears, gunnar pins and an SDS 3rd:

https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5529/...24f27925_b.jpg

And a Sand Scorcher body, which is much to short :ror:
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1586/...cde77206_b.jpg

And a present from Shapeways:
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1485/...cde44fb7_b.jpg

Then I started cutting it up, did everything with string and patience. :

I got a spare body to donate it's finders. I made the same cut on the spare except with the added wheel base. This accomplishes two things; the first being that everything is tamiya plastic, the second being that I don't have to worry about matching any contours because it's built in:

Checking to see how it will look:

Lines up nicely. I'm trying to keep everything 100% Tamiya plastic with as little filler as possible. This involves lots of melting parts trees with plastruct and it's going to take some work, but I think it will be worth it:

Cut the hood off since most 1:1's loose the hood. I think with a firewall and proper baja bumper it will fill up nicely:

I have a lot left to do, so follow along and let me know what you think. "thumbsup"

Thanks - it's a neat little part. I was surprised at how smooth the finish is.

Thanks dudes. "thumbsup"

Made some progress.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1528/...3c3b89c9_b.jpg

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1491/...b08203a0_b.jpg

Built the front and rear axles for it. Front is a has:
Overdrive gears
Beef tubes
RCP Chubs
VVD's
Grip-Fab spool
Vanquish knuckles - milled for bigger bearings
Gatekeep servo / link mounts
Locked Up servo posts
Clocked the knuckles

Rear is:
Underdrive gears
Hot racing spool
Locked up axle shafts
RCbro's upper link mount
Vanquish lockouts

Finally got the transmission together and spinning as it should. It was a real pain, and I finally had to add some washers to get the gears to clear the case and I had to just give up on the RcBro's gears because I couldn't get them to spin true (probably my fault). Hopefully it will pay off. Using a 16t Crawl Master from Holmes Hobbies.

Found some rims I bought a few years ago and never used, they're from GCM. Wrapped them in RC4wd Flashpoints and CI Foams with Locked up scale hardware and hubs.

Hoping to get to bumpers and sliders this weekend. "thumbsup"

Thanks! It's an oddly proportioned body that's for sure but it's been one of the most fun builds I've done in a long time. It's really made me appreciate building again.

Thanks! Yup if it's done in time. I'm working on a C2 as well but I want to wait until I'm a little farther along before I post anything.

Really cool. I've always liked that body. I don't know if I missed it but what's your wheelbase? Also if you recall what's the stock wheelbase?
