Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks And I'm bound to not find any, because they're not at comps and don't like toy trucks. Whatever. Class 2 for this year is all about recycling. I'm using my existing, tried and true SCX-based truck with much Vanquish and overkill drivetrain. Heavy up front and tuned nicely for the terrain I comp on, it will make for a comp-ier truck this year with a focus on weight. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/jx4JFl.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/c0TRSy.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/uzBpDb.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/1FJAIy.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/zt1HnJ.jpg Rather than muck about with a styrene body, I've opted for Lexan (2016 - Year of Lexan) but gone a little unique with this Nissan Patrol GQ from Peppe at RC-Crawler.it Good guy, very friend. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/Q4EI4M.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/iqXZFv.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/4lvbix.jpg As you can see, I've opted for a few resin parts to make it live up to my personal expectations for what a truck should look like, namely, depth and dimension. Going to be a fun one. I've also got all the interior bits as well. More to come! |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks Looks nice! Are you going to build an interior? |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks I love chicks |
Nissan patrol! Real cool...I almost bought one.. Does crawl it still make parts? This is going to be nice!!! |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks Well, I'm not a fan of Lexan but I am a fan of the Patrol. I will be watching this. |

So step one to get maximum points from a Lexan-bodied plop of a truck is to make sure there's a full depth interior. So I have one. A nice lexan floorpan, lexan dashboard, and resin seats with some custom styrene risers so they sit at the right level. The floorpan is screwed to the chassis and I'll screw the body to that - probably. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/nd7KKn.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/xxRwtN.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/p54KcR.jpg I also spent an hour today revising the rear suspension and link length to bring it down to 11.65" wheelbase to better suit the existing wheel wells and give the chassis a little help with turning radius and break over. I had to reverse the cantilever suspension I designed, but as luck would have it, they flip from one side to the other, no muss no fuss, and actually seems to articulate better. |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks Today was all about... stuff. Outside, I put together this simple comp bumper. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/jqNd1K.jpg A little square tube, two cuts and some RC4WD bumper mounts I stole off a Jeep bumper I'll never use. I drilled a hole straight down the middle and put some 3/16th tube down the centre to route my winch line. Smooth. Hawse fairlead, some primer and some paint, and I'm finished with that. Might add a couple tabs for D-Rings. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/6ja7tA.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/yBw0cX.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/jK1U8q.jpg As for interior, I've now glued the dash in place, made a few cuts for driveshafts, put some front fenders in, and found a spot to hide the battery. Hooray for everything working the first time. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/cUbhjD.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/5kJYb3.jpg The list gets smaller. |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks I like more each time post picture you. It make toy truck build look easy. |

Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks I think you should leave the body clear, and name the turk 'X-ray'. "thumbsup" |

Painting and trimming step one. Much more detail work to do. Peppe includes a number of resin bits that help add realism. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/Tj4jUK.jpg |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks Looks fantastic, love that body. Chicks avoid 2dr oriental SUV's like the plague. You need an American crew cab anything if you want a chance with them. The wheel nuts behind the scale hubs got to go though. |

Do not disparage the Japanese Turk. Many chicks have already requested a ride. Oh yes, wheel nuts will go, not to worry. Mocking stuff up and of course, the hubs are too short. I hate trimming threads. |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks MORE WHEEL NUTS MORE SHOCKER! Please. |

Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks Where did the floor pan come from ? Much need ..... |

Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks I'm pretty happy with how the paint turned out. The stripes... Not so much. Too weak and not correct for the era, so I went back and re-did them in a style that I much prefer. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/9GyZ23.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/GExbhE.jpg You can see that I also decided to try the new Pro-Line K02 tires in an effort to bring the truck's center of gravity down a notch or two. I rather like the sizing and tread pattern. Based on terrain, they could be a great tire that will require some testing. Also, interior. Hamburger rides again. Some of you will recognize hamburger. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/C2dDvO.jpg |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks That's a lot of scale points |
Re: Imthatguy's Patrolling for Chicks axial light bar? how did you get it to yellow like that? and my clear lens thing like to pop out if my truck rolls... nice patrol though :) gunmetal is awesome. |
