| Oddball's Ford ranger truggy
Hi! I've been following this forum for quite some time now and found some amazing builds and thats how i got the inspiration to start my own This will be based on the scx 10 running gear, tamiya bush devil body (ford ranger, right? ) and home made chassis. It will be a slow build as i dont have that much free time and my workshop is 10km away from my flat. Main chassis rails are 5mm dia solid rod and rest is 3mm (probably going to make rear part of the cage out of 4mm) It will be on 1.9 tires, probably flat irons as thats what i have. Maybe ill switch to 1.55 later down the road but for now it is 1.9. It is a budget build so no fancy stuff, mostly a stock scx with few upgrades that are necessary to keep it reliable so this is where i'm at now: and sitting on my 1:1 project It's all mig welded, and these are my first welds (except few tries on some scrap metal), i hope my welding skills improve soon PS: im from europe so please excuse my english and get used to the metric system Last edited by Oddball; 05-04-2016 at 12:09 PM. |

well, here is a small update I've finaly found some inspiration and got the back of the cage almost done. Decided to stay with 5mm in the back instead of 4. The front now seems a bit too thin so i might redo that later pics: welds are fugly but i will grind them down to look half decent Last edited by Oddball; 05-20-2016 at 10:27 AM. |

I like it! I drive a ranger daily. are you going to put the bedside back on it? like just along the two rails? and welcome to rcc. |

ahh i didnt even think about putting bed sides back on, now i have a dilemma i might make some detachable mounts so i can take it off, bed sides would hide the welds though.

not much of an update but still.. took the axles off the dingo and mounted flat irons back on stock scx rims (I got tired of doing and undoing 12 screws per wheel, can't imagine how you guys do something like those military style rims with bazillion screws) mocked up everything, i think im happy with this wheelbase. It sits at 300mm pics: can you tell that its been sitting on the balcony for quite some time cant decide between these two ride hights (maybe leaning a bit towards the lower one) I cant figure out where to mount shocks, should i have them vertical or maybe lean them (and how much). Any help would be much appreciated |

| Re: Oddball's Ford ranger truggy not my ranger. this truck is on pirate4x4. kinda like this but let the tube work show. you could put nuts or tabs on the tube work so the panels can be removed. |

I am really digging your truck. Huge ford ranger fan so I'll be following your build. I like the top pick for ride hight. Keep up the good work!

I'd use either a tab or a tube with a plate. Personally I'd try to stand the shocks up more. You'll get crazy flex with shocks leaning down like they are pictured. It's cool but will flop over easily side hilling. Articulation is good but only to a point. Plus if it's a scaler it shouldn't have comp shock angle to it. Just my opinion. Like crawlingman mentioned you may want to decide on how you want the rear to go together before you make a permanent metal part. You can use zip ties to temporarily hold the shocks of need be. Hope that helps. Looks great so far! All the best.
