Default HJ47 N00b Carrier

Going to build an HJ47 Troop Carrier from some RC4WD FJ40 bodies. I've have an old RC4WD Fracture FJ40 chassis and cast Yota axles for ages so I'll use them for ultimate realism. Given the length of the Troopy I'll have to add about 4 inches to the chassis. Nothing like cutting an out of production chassis in half.

Alright! Let's get to work!

I'm not much of a fan of being a fan of things, but this thing is okay.

This will be awesome. Going for a particular year of HJ or leave the hodge podge of early mid and late 40 series parts that make up the g2 cruiser body?

Let's say it will be an 84. Same year as me. I will be taking the necessary steps to change the doors, bezel and what have you. And it will be RHD.

Great start - I wish I would have picked up one of those frames when they were still around .

Took some time today to blend in the patches. Not bad, minimal filler required.

Started on making this look like a proper HJ with late model bits and pieces.

Doors. Modified the hinges to look more accurate too.

Square bezel. Cut the light buckets out of the round one.

Still need to change some detail on the bib as outlined in black.

And our darn rock n roll music!

I scratched my head a bit on how to do the ambulance doors. I ended up using the scraps from one of the other roof pieces and grafted them in. Quite pleased with the fit!

I'm going to modify one of the hinges and cast it in silicone. Then grind them all off and put them in the right places.

The roof is getting there slowly but surely. I need more practice on this body stuff.

It's my understanding that every vehicle in Australia has a jungle gym mounted to the front of it so here's what I came up with. It's made for 1/14th semi trucks so I'll have to widen it a touch.

So I says to myself I says, self, you don't want to remake all of them hinges for the ambulance doors, I says no way so I says I'll modify one to look correct then I'll make a silicone mold and cast the copies.

Hinges cast in resin. Came out perfect.

Cut the new door lines, ground off hinges and left hand license plate mount.

The roof is almost blended in. Just a few more spots to fill. Also cut in the fuel door.

Great idea with the hinges.
I was thinking of how to make new hinges also, this is a great idea.
I have made new rear doors for my fj-40, and am going to replace the entire back end with more accurate rear corners.
I will send a pic of the almost finished doors .
What mold medium did you use? I haven't used any in a long time.
Thanks.

Thanks. Can't wait to finish it and drive it. Long wheelbase and huge rear overhang will be great fun

Thanks! I used silicone caulk mixed with glycerin and acrylic paint. I like it because it dries quickly. Very impatient.

I cut many strips
