Default My SCX10 II Mini-me turned BRIARWOOD build!

I have a box in my boot!

The box also came with a free knife. It's a cute little knife.

It came in handy for opening said box.

In the box were instructions and bags full of parts.
I made things with those parts as per the instructions. It went well.

Parts that go together to make an SCX10+2=12

Cost cutting!!!!!!

The oil bottle is much smaller in the SCX10+2=12 when compared to the SCX10.. Still had too much.

Eventually, after many pages and much screwing I had this!

I used my very pretty GCM 8-hole wheels with the kit tyres.

Then I cut out and painted some lexan. Urgh how I dislike lexan!

Eventually after much gassing of myself with horrible lexan paint and a few cuts from shape knives I had a Jeep. One that if you stand 6ft away kinda looks a bit like another Jeep of mine...

After adding wires and little jiggers that do stuff to make it move I did some testing/comparing with the SCX10 that I run in our local "stock SCX10" class. I won't be doing a blow by blow analysis of the SCX10+2=12 as it's already been done quite a few times. But...

A fair bit more front overhang..

ALOT more rear overhang.

Then I did a very simple turning radius test in the driveway.

SCX10, full lock then a semi circle..

SCX10+2=12, same deal.

MUCH better!!!

I had one last trail run in lexan form with Mr Bokchoi (from the SBG) on the weekend.

Then it was home to shed it of it's lexan burden..

I removed the plastic sliders, bumpers and body mounts.

And started work on it's new look!
I'm building an XJ Briarwood! Woooood woody wood wood.....

As you can see by the salt chipping I'm going with a weathered look.

Hmmm.....

YES. I know many think the Briarwood is cheesy. But faux wood is one of those defining traits of 80s American luxury cars. You might also consider using this stuff

Shop Red Oak Veneer at Lowes.com

Very fine grain. Much scale.

I'm surprised nobody has made a Wagoneer front end for the XJ.

The cheesy is the best part! That said I'd love a mint one in the garage. We didn't get them here in Australia. Thanks for the link..

One of the things I was less excited about with the new XJ was the massive front overhang so I've made a bumper from aluminium that gives a much better approach angle.

I still need to add shackle points etc.. It's based on the JCR non-winch bar.

Some big fat RC4WD Compass tyres give the crawlerery look I'm after.. There's going to need to be a little fender hacking for clearnessness.

I've ditched the plastic sliders in favour of metal jobbies too.

Now for the bit I've all been waiting for!! Faux-woodage!

I still need to add the trim around the edges and do the rear panel but that will need to wait until I sort the body mounts out, then I can use the "wood" to cover any bolts etc...

After a bit of head scratching I came up with this..

I've removed the stock plastic chassis extension and made up a steel extension that allows me to pivot the body from the rear.
You'll have to excuse the long bolts etc, I'll tidy that all up soon..

This allowed me to panel across the rear. The alloy hanging down below the tailgate will be used to mount the rear bumper so it will pivot with the body.
