Default Customised Jeep JK - GCM Racing Chassis

These Boom Racing JK bodies are very cheap, well made and pretty detailed so I thought I'd chop one up a little and go for a different colour. So far I've broken down the body and trimmed the wheel arch flares.

Primed and masked up and with some matt black added. I've picked Rover Applejack Green for the rest.

Some general progress. I'm getting used to the green now, I think with the black toning it down a bit it works, just.

Used a silver Sharpie to do some detailing on the dash.

The Skeleton chassis has arrived, very nice piece of kit. Whipped the axles of of my Rubicon which already have beef tubes and overdrive in the front and also used the attached wheels and tires for a quick mock up. Pretty chuffed with how it looks so far.

Ok here's a picture of the chassis, as you can see I've got the electronics in now. I added some SCX10 rock sliders and mounted the batteries on them on either side.

I just about squeezed everything in.

It does all fit under there, just. I'll make some inner fenders to hide it all away.

Cheers, Charlie

Lights next. The fronts were pretty straight forward:-

As supplied the rears are half reverse and half brake/driving light. There's one big hole in the back of the bucket which would if holding a bulb illuminate the whole unit.

I decided therefore to place a divider inside the box to isolate the reverse light and also to paint some additional clear red on the lens to reduce the size of the clear portion.

Anyway I tried to make them look a little like this real one, sans cage.

This is where I've got to:-

Illuminated:-

Cheers, Charlie

Back from hols had a full day to work on the JK today. I swapped out the temporary Axial drive shafts for some JunFac ones that had arrived from RCMart.

I also added some Axial CVDs to improve the steering and sorted out the body mounting.

Also arrived was the RCModelex roof frame so I fitted that and I'm really pleased with it. As I hope to comp this I want a spare wheel/tire for scale points but it looks pretty daft mounted on the rear, being so big, so I'm looking at adding it where the rear seat usually goes. This means I need to work out what to do with the original mount.

And finally a driver, I wanted one with a flexible body and arms that would move with the steering wheel that I'm hoping to power. This is a Street League Skateboarding figure as recommended by Tom of Tom's RC Scaler (Youtube.) He's possibly a tad small and has a bit of a goofy expression so I'm thinking of maybe swapping his head for something more realistic.

Looks great.

May I ask what you used for trimming the wheel arch flares?

Thanks, Dirk

Cheers Dirk, I used cotton thread, backwards and forwards, cuts through surprisingly well. Then I filed them.

Nearing completion, I couldn't resist a test run and a few pictures in the garden.

As much as I like the green it's a bugger to photograph. The spare wheel cover is an experiment with the cap of a primer can. I've cut out another one and sprayed it in the aforementioned green and hope to mount it without the nut and bolt showing.

Everything is working, yay. I have to say I'm impressed with the performance, not many of my trucks can pull off this manoeuver without rolling.

I've made some rudimentary inner fenders for the front.

Prefer the no bling, matches the interior/fenders/trim better. Do agree it could use some dirt though
The bling would maybe fit better if you had shiny bumpers, sliders and cage.

What a dirty lil rig you've got! So much I like about it. Lights came out real nice. Great job on everything, Man! I'll take mine without bling please.
Question though, Can the front bumper be pulled in a few more mm?

I know what you mean, they look a bit false when they're that shiny! Cheers.

Yep, no bling seems to be more popular, black wheels on Jeeps seem to be very popular too, thanks.

Hehe cheers, no bling is out ahead at the moment! I think I might be able to do something with the bumper, agree it looks too far out.

Cheers, Charlie
