Default Rock Rat Project

Ladies and gentlemen......

The initial idea, thanks to my dear friend Giumik, was to develop a vehicle
with a high level look and aesthetic / reproductive detail, but also a lot of performance.

The goal over challenger was able to maintain a low center of gravity and a good negative suspension excursion.

To do this, it was necessary to check collision points between frame and axles, and in this sense the 3d design was of great help.

Tests frame shapes:

Tests axle movements and interference with motor unit:

Test in maximum compression:

The first piece is the frame, low weight = carbon fiber

The second piece, the body, a custom body, project 3d and special printing 3d

3d rendering of the front grille:

3d printing proofs of the front grille:

A bit of color

To install the small transmission at the position as low as possible,
i dug the original skid Ascender to the base,
i inserted a carbon fiber plate 2mm and resined on the bottom,
on this i always fixed one carbon fiber counterplate but with a thickness of 1.2mm to which it is fixed the transmission.

Then I realized the side plates and Rock Sliders.
The bulkheads are made of carbon plate from 1mm in silhouette with the body
so as to create the lower level where to stay Esc, receiver and battery and close the gap between the frame and door,
on these i applied the Rock Sliders made from an aluminum tube.

I was forgetting, the V8 still missing the intake manifold and air filter,
now "breathes"

Thanks i follow your work, all wonderful

For hood and drop bed I thought of using something a little 'more original
Usually forex, but always with a watchful eye on weight and taste to build and shape something.

I chose aluminum, thin sheets, ribbed, folded and riveted by hand and joined with rivets handmade 1.2mm in diameter
In short, a folly for a vehicle that is intended to be used in the race, but so .....

Here the hood closed:

Closed it but ....

The zipper that lets you open the hood has been realized
also in aluminum, creating half of the hinge directly from the hood so you do not see
screws or rivets, the other half was created to be screwed from inside the engine compartment
on the front grille support crossbar.

Hard support to the frame of the panhard :

Drop Bed has taken shape, it is a "beta" version that will probably not be the final
but for now I'm satisfied, maybe because it all metal, aluminum sheets with thickness from 0.2 to 0.5mm.

The door can be opened

The writing on the the tailgate and hood were made by printing on adhesive aluminum one-tenth
and then protected with matte varnish

Detail :

Tow hitch...

Latches hatchback...

Thanks guys

For this project I established a rather low target weight, about 2450 grams with lipo battery on board.

Final details, all exclusively handmade

Rollcage is made of aluminum in the drop bed:

Taillights taken from indicator lights for electronic control units
and supported by special shaped PVC base :

Vehicle finished

Here we are, after finally tested Rock Rat

I made a first definitely unconventional tests, finishing the assembly of the vehicle and must be prepared for a long hike,
at 3:45 of the night between Friday and Saturday,
after 3 hours of sleep I left for Recon G6 Italy.

With half ever used off-road (only tried it in the house) and 3 talented fellow adventurers,
the Recon G6 2016 along approximately 7km (so I was told) is literally blown away in 2 hours and 10 minutes,
without a single problem and with great satisfaction in driving, especially in view of a still nonexistent setup.

Same goes for the team competition the next day (Sunday) where Rock Rat
It just got clean passages without effort and the top step of the podium

With these results could not deny a gift to Rock Rat, and then return home
the vehicle has found a new garage, more comfortable and in style

I have installed a Revolver Holmes Outrunner Stubby and a Mamba Max Pro with BEC CC,
i have a good compromise between performance, control and lightness, i use 3s Lipo.
