Default '98 Jeep XJ - 2 Door

So in between the Ambush build-off, I have this Jeep fix I need to scratch. Love XJ's, do not love 4 doors, and while there is a very well done XJ 4 door hard body out there I just wanted to see if I could conjure up a 2 door version and make it acceptable. It will not be a shelf queen and will be mounted on an Ascender chassis. Here we go! Started with a good scaled to 1:9 scale in size and cut and snip we go.

A little more progress - added a few more details to the rear hatch, recessed the license plate mount and the rear lift handle.Moved to the front and started tying it together, repaired a little faux pas on the roof, wasn't curved enough.

So am at the point where I've done some light shaping, created the grill, opened the windows, added a few other body details and getting it to where I want ride height wise on the Ascender chassis.

I love "styrene Friday" it's that day where you have off, everyone else goes shopping and you get to finish up the styrene work on your build! It's also what I call pre-filler/pre-fugly time, just before final shaping and a little filler work. So thought about that flat boring hood and came up with a vented idea. Also planning on relocating that stock battery tray so I can add a 4.0 I6 engine. Finished up adding the window moldings and roof rails. Still have to do something with the wheel flares, I didn't want the stock look, may go with a partial design.

Primer just seems to bring it all together, it confirms that you are close to getting the lines right, and highlights spots that require more massaging! And there are a few, before it consider painting it.

The '98 Jeep XJ 2dr scratch build finally gets some color. now time to wet sand, buff and tend to all the misc. parts! Weird, its a bright Chrysler red - but photos look muted....oh well.

Tackled my first metal front bumper for the XJ, I've done tube bumpers before so this was the first time for this type. Could have been slightly narrower, more tuck on the sides I guess. Ran into an issue with the lenses, luckily the front lenses from the Axial Cherokee body came very close to fitting, but the rears were not available. I used some red poly-carbonate and a few clear lenses some super glue and some orange film and made the tri-color lenses. Finished the hood vent, added the front LED's, installed the grill and mounted the front bumper. Not going to go crazy with the rub out as this was built to get scratched up with some rock rash so it's staying like it is. Much more to do!

XJ got some lights! And some tinted glass, and another fab'd bumper, rear this time. Now for an interior!

Amazing!! I love the detail! Is that an actual firewall inside? What kind of interior are you gonna build?

Thanks Jchevy01!
XJ - got some sun! Made some sliders, it's wired up, added the Axial roof rack, a couple of KC Lites - LED bars, and secured the body. And of course we've got about 12" of snow, freezing temps and no where to go! Except the deck. Yes the sliders are inverted, just wanted something different. Now off to build an interior.

Size: 100.7 KBThe XJ got an interior, but I had to loose the console - bummer as the trans cover took up to much space. Added a #Knightscustoms XJ snorkel, some additional #exclusiverc gear - RotoPAX, sand ramps and a Hi-lift jack. Gotta find a spot and take a few videos! Here are some static shots.
