Born in the USA... The Jeep family is growing Hi, The build of my Jeep Comanche is finished (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...he-truggy.html), so I started another project close to my heart: a 4 doors JK Jeep. The build is based on a New Bright body. Here is the par list: - VP grey Currie axles with VP grey c-hubs, VP orange knuckles and VP lockers, Axial HD gears and Axial driveshafts on both, - RC4WD Raceline 1.9 rims, - RC4WD Compass 1.9 tires, - RC4WD R3 2 speed, - RC4WD King Off Road shocks (100m front and 70mm rear), - SDI driveshafts, - Futaba S9156 steering servo - Holmes Torque Master Expert 55T motor, - RC4WD Warn 9.5 CTI mini winch All the other parts are machined by myself. So the first step is the long cad work for the design of the chassis (done with Solidworks): https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/aperyu10.jpg I started the machining process by the frame itself. Here are the parts already done: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9220.jpg Next, the fabrication of the frame rail and the bending step of the front section. For this step, I decided to screw the rail on a plate and bend the 2 rails together to have an identical shape: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9322.jpg And the result: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9321.jpg https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9324.jpg https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9318.jpg Then I drilled all the remaining holes: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9323.jpg https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9325.jpg For the rear suspension, I wanted to do something different than classic chassis's. So I decided to make a "replica" of the Evo Lever cantilever system (that's why 70mm shocks...): https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/aperyu12.jpg The subframe components: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9317.jpg I've made a jig to braze all these parts: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9319.jpg Parts on: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9320.jpg The finished subframe: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_0012.jpg [IMG][/IMG] To be continued... |

Re: Born in the USA... The Jeep family is growing Thanks a lot for all your comments ! I put all my passion in this project and it's a pleasure to share it here "thumbsup" Next step, the assembly of the VP axles. But first, I tapped all the diff covers holes into M2 to mount metric screws easier to find in France: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_0013.jpg Et voilą: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9510.jpg I also assembled the main structure of the frame: https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9415.jpg https://i62.servimg.com/u/f62/15/15/08/29/img_9414.jpg |
