I've got CI dual stage foams with soft outers all around my 8.5lb vaterra ascender. Just enough squat for great bite but never an issue sidehihilling. Soak the tsl's in simple green and water for a day or two to help clean off the mold release and run them. They get better each run.
Yes they're the Vaterra TSL's. I will probably end up running them a couple times even just to take some pics. They're a solid tire, especially for a kit tire. Because they're glued I'll just leave them which means these foams are probably staying for now. I have already dismounted a set before and it was a PITA, but good foams are important!

use nail polish remover to literally melt the CA glue that holds on the tire. doesn't hurt the rubber or the rim, takes maybe 20 minutes per tire of just dabbing on the nail polish remover with a q tip around each side of the tire for about 10 minutes. You just want to keep the glue area visibly wet to reduce mess.cool part is you can do all of 1 side of all of the tires in one go, peel, flip and repeat!

Cheers

...also: nice truck!!

First off awesome build. I love the weathering it's just enough to make the truck look legit. As for dismounting glued tires I've use the oven at 400 for 10-12 min a side and it works awesome.

I bought a little scale accessory pack and they looked a little too new. Out came the paintbrush and gave them some life!

Thanks! It's a very fun truck and I just can't believe how well balanced it is. Went anywhere I wanted it to yesterday, sidehilled great, couldn't be happier. Let me know if you have any questions that I can help out with when you build yours!

You could sale me this one? Or I would love to have you build me a body and paint it! I love yours the way it is but I loved it before weathering

Appreciate the offer but this ones not for sale and it was a lot of work, just not worth it to build them to sell. Like I said though if I can help at all I'd be happy to give any advice or tips that I learned when building this one. Wasn't hard, just time consuming!

The details on the body are perfect. Any pointers for getting such a realistic look to the rust? Did you purely hand brush it or is there some air brush too?

Thanks. All the rust paint was done by hand, no airbrush.

Here's my other K10 that I did some on as well:

Nice scaler!
It has a very real look to it, the detailing is excellent.

Thats a polystyrene body then? So if you roll it off a cliff it would break?

On unmounting Vaterra TSL's...I put a pint jar of acetone, which is the main ingredient of nail polish remover, in a 3gl bucket with a lid, stacked the mounted tires and stock wheels on top of the open jar of acetone, and closed the whole thing up for a couple of days. It softened the glue up alright, and I was able to mostly peel all four tires off the wheels, but one bead tore in one place so I have 3-1/2 good tires.

The new Proline's are really nice, but they're really big too.

Thanks for the compliments.

The main body is ABS plastic, and then the parts that I made such as the cab rear and the front of the box, were made from styrene. Bonded the two together using MEK.

This truck took a couple tumbles on a pretty steep clay hill with some pebbles in it and it held up great. I certainly wouldn't want to roll it down a hard rock surface, but there's definitely strength to it.

Well, it looks really nice. I guess I need to separate my comping and crawling desires (reads: lexan body) with the more scale looking rigs. The ability to modify like that is amazing.
