| Sawback Torino
I stumbled across a Grand Torino hard body quite a while back, which I paid way, way to much for, but I had to have it. I started off by chopping the hell out of my old Sawback. Yes, a Sawback. I started by chopping an inch out of the chassis in order to shorten it to a 10" wheelbase. I had already put R1 gears in the front end, reversed front shackles and moved rear spring mounts forward. I decided to use a RC4WD transmission which set off a chain reaction. Ended up using a cheap China T-case that has a 16:1 gear reduction, so I had to clearance the inside of the bell housing to accept a 19T pinion. Perfect gearing first try Everything is still in mockup and lots of styrene work to be done, but I think it's going to be a fun little scaler when done. I'm open to any input or suggestion anyone may have. No I'm not painting red with a white stripe like most other people are doing with these bodies |

Made a small bit of progress on this heap today. Body didn't actually have windows. They were molded in and painted black, so I finally got up the nerve and started hacking at them, and all turned out great . Lexan windshield is installed. I got sidetracked when it came to the rear window. Maybe next week. Also got my genuine rubber fender flairs installed |

Been tinkering with the suspension and tire size. Trying to get the crazy look of the 4x4 cars that were running the streets back when I was a kid. Most had 44" tires and set super high. I know most probably don't like this look, but it's my toy and I'll do what I want with it. So, in keeping with scale and since I haven't seen anyone do it yet, I threw together a scale lift kit. Lift blocks and longer u-bolts This did allow me to correct the front pinion angle that was a little off from the shackle reversal. Once all the gear and styrene interior are installed it should ride a little lower. 3" of clearance under the center of a Sawback on C1 tires might be a tiny bit much?

[QUOTE=Correll;5739344]I like it. Go Green like Gran Torino. [/QUOT If it were the right year I'd be all over it. I do have a theme planned, but as most of what I do, It'll be a bit off the wall. |

Got a little time over the weekend, so I started back in on this crazy thing. Dash, seat and some accessories are near completion. Just need a little more detailing and cleaning up along with paint. Considering this is a 1976 model I figured it had better have a good ole under dash 8-Track and a CB. Straighten up the floorboard and make the door panels and I can finally start painting and laying in the carpet and headliner |

Got a little time today, and I was making pretty good progress till, Clark pulled one of his bonehead moves and stuck his hand in a jaw trap I had just laying around. I might just leave it to teach him a lesson |
