Are you doing a unimog too!! Nice!! I'm kinda swaying towards the unimog but was thinking of maybe setting chassis to fit the defender shell an then buying unimog shell an custom building shell to fit same wheel base!!

Started a thread on the mog.

I like my D90. Problem is the weight, speed and the small tires without cutting too much. Its built for slow scale running. Cannot go out and bash it.

The mog will be lighter (Tamiya body), bigger tires and more wheel speed to use as a more flexible trail rig.

When I was looking at hardbody an roll cage etc etc I did think would start an get heavy!! I already have a maverick scout an was going to use them axles!! An then buy build parts I can!! Been looking at vacuum forming body as I think I really only want the front cab!! An if I don't cut up tamiya unimog shell I can use that on lunchbox chassis!!

Tamiya bodies are cheap. And the D90 should be doing the rounds soon.

The mog body looks bad as is with the back on. The cab is all I’m going to use.

I feel that if you build using a hardbody d90 that you should just go with it and build around its weight. It will limit performance but if done ok the playtime is great with the scale rocking and movement. You need to concentrate to keep it on its wheels.

A friend thats a serious 1:1 4x4 driver, as a profession basically, commented that my 90 reacts very close to a real one with the funny weight up top and with hoe you have to maneuver through obstacles.

All depends what you wanna do with the rig in the end?

Yea tamiya shell is cheap ISH not compared to Chinese d90 though!! I want something I can run on trails an have some fun with!! Have always wanted a tamiya unimog but the cc01 chassis don't seem. That great compared to a crawler so think I'm more tempted by unimog!!

Finally got around to figure out how to do the front coil springs. Took bloody long enough. Some Traxxas rod ends, brass plate, Tamiya CVS springs and Tamiya CR01 shock parts chopped up mad it happen. The rear is running on the CVA short hard springs with 80mm shocks and internal springs. Half 40wt oil in them to still have some spring.
Front has CVA short soft springs. 3/4 40wt oil in the shocks with no internal springs. Dampens nicely and fights the torque steer nicely.

Suspension is done now. Might just attempt the SCX10 C-hub and knuckle with cvd shaft mod still or keep the parts for some other axles I have on the way still.

The pics of it resting on it more scale suspension:

Pics of the chassis:

The studs on the body posts have been grooved on the one side. The body pulls upwards and locks into these slots. Quick to take off and doesn’t slip off in a trail.

Had it out on a run with some friends. Was fun! And the winch suffers a bit under the rigs weight, but can pull the other guys easy enough.

The bush posed some problems with branches getting over the rig. Made a plan for with some wire rope...

After thinking about it for way too long, I just started with figuring out a panhard.

Cut some alu, drilled some holes and made a link. Works perfectly!

The bracket on the HG axle:

Bracket on the chassis:

Drag link and panhard bar exactly parallel and same length:

I chopped the extension on the front of the pinion shaft to make space for the bar to move.
