Default Scott builds a new Class One - Bug Edition

Inspirations for this build are Jon and Sam's bugs:

I needed to build a new Class One rig this year as my old Tundra was no longer SORRCA legal for Class One.

I've always like the bugs that Sam and Jon made. So I decided to pull the trigger and get some bug bodies. Then I wanted to use 10.2 axles for the added clearance.

Started with a couple bug bodies:

After some cutting:

I'm using the one body as a donor so that all the plastic is tamiya plastic.

Everything mocked up:

After bonding and some sanding:

Chassis setup:

Quick rundown of parts
-SCX10 Integy Frame w/ VP shock tower mounts
-Ti links w/ LURC SCX10.2 panhard bar
-Toyzuki SCX10 Motor Mount
-Dravtech shocks
-Custom CMS mount to clear the nose of the bug
-3D printed rear cross brace designed by Harley Designs
-DCW Wheels
-LURC Beadlock rings and scale hardware
-CI Lil Nova foams
-Pitbull Braven Ironside tires

Close up of the Toyzuki SCX10 Motor mount and custom CMS mount

Teaser Pic on the chassis:

I'll do a more detailed write up of the build when I get the truck back as well as new updates. Truck is on its way to get metal work done.

Great start man! You did some good work on that body stretch, I'm excited to see how you mount your bod and finish it up.

Thanks! I was a little concerned with how the body was going to turn out when I was lining up the cuts, but that styrene goop really saved the day.

Body mounts are just going to be little tabs on the sliders with set screws. Stealing the mounting idea from Sam

Got it back yesterday (edited for Eric)!!

Metal work turned out killer! Couple cool features include:
-Removalable battery tray on the slider, you just unscrew one screw and slide the plastic forward to access it
-built in mounts for dash mounting and interior floor mounting
-Winch mount on the slider and winch routing that attaches to the shock tower

Next step is to get the electronics laid out and mounted. I'll be using:
Holmes Puller Team 400 16t
Holmes Mini BR
KMS K3 Winch
Holmes Mini BR as a winch controller
Castle BEC
Savox 2292 Steering Servo

This new build is great. Question, what is your wheel base?

I hardly have any pics of this build due to doing most of it at the 11th hour. I finished the bug at around 3am before I flew out at 7am to Nationals.

Ended up doing pretty well at Nats with it. After the four courses I found myself in 4th place and a chance to drive the finals course (top 5 drivers get in).

Finals course didn't go too great. Ended up hitting three gates and took a bad line to the bonus and had to bail. I still finished the course and ended up in 4th place overall. I was pretty happy with that considering I had ran two packs through the truck before nationals.

Things to do to the truck after nats:
-Finish the rear of the body
-Paint the body
-Truck is currently toed out pretty far, I'm going to bring that in a little bit
-Properly mount the dash
