Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Definitely not 1:10 anymore, Toto! Having just finished an Orlandoo, that kit would be like building a 1:1 :ror: Are you planning to use the stock wheels? |

Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Aside from the body and tires, looks pretty solid! I'll be keeping an eye on the build. |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build looking forward to your updates, will keep an eye out |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build About time we see one here... Can't wait ! |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Steps 1-5: Transmission & Transfer Case Starting off with Bag 1 https://farm1.staticflickr.com/837/2...c7e33f85_b.jpg Contents of Bag 1 https://farm1.staticflickr.com/876/4...b84d1f1d_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/820/2...24432bff_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/915/4...219d9194_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/871/2...270647c9_b.jpg Step 1 Complete https://farm1.staticflickr.com/935/4...ddf17585_b.jpg Working on Step 2 https://farm1.staticflickr.com/813/4...9ec430bf_b.jpg Shift gear on the left, Hi & Lo gear on the shaft back right https://farm1.staticflickr.com/887/4...f884c2e1_b.jpg Step 2 Complete https://farm1.staticflickr.com/880/4...e37a34fb_b.jpg Step 3 Complete https://farm1.staticflickr.com/785/4...26820720_b.jpg Using the HoBao 550 can 27T brushed motor that my friend included. I'm guessing this is what comes with the RTR https://farm1.staticflickr.com/814/4...722952b7_b.jpg Step 4 Complete. Setting the gear mesh is a little more challenging than usual with that heatsink assembly in the way. But you can see through the holes... do it by feel and there are holes to let you tighten down the motor. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/907/2...3ea153a7_b.jpg Starting on the transfer case for Step 5 https://farm1.staticflickr.com/783/4...e36a27f9_b.jpg Step 5 complete https://farm1.staticflickr.com/925/2...df513d68_b.jpg |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Certainly looks like quality, I hope it feels equally so. That pinion gear is definitely well marked! Carry on "thumbsup" |

With this kit, I don't think quality of material will be an issue. If anything design choices may be more of note. Hopefully if any of these design choices (like the link mount on axle) show up... hopefully they'll either be minor, or easily modified and overcome. |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Is there a us disturber? How is parts support? |

Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Wow that looks like a well thought out crawler made with high quality materials! |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Steps 6-13: Chassis rails & Links This build is a little different than most other kits I've built. Most other crawler kits start off with building the axles first. This kit starts off building the transmission and chassis rail up first. HoBao being mainly a touring, buggy kit maker... I can sort of understand maybe why they did it this way out of familiarity. Anyway, on to the build. Starting Step 6. Notice the indentations in the chassis rails for the skid plate and brackets? https://farm1.staticflickr.com/930/4...1f76e9dc_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/819/3...39733162_b.jpg Step 6 complete https://farm1.staticflickr.com/791/3...90a6f935_b.jpg Step 7 is mounting motor and transmission onto frame. Notice again, the indentation in the frame for the motor mount. Definitely different than most trucks, and I'm assuming more stable. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/818/3...0a7f403e_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/930/3...e70c969b_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/855/3...936d9781_b.jpg Transfer case mounted https://farm1.staticflickr.com/881/3...bdb73c93_b.jpg Top part of drive shafts added https://farm1.staticflickr.com/908/3...86e0cc67_b.jpg Starting on the links in Step 8 https://farm1.staticflickr.com/882/3...9a83f18c_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/938/3...5b92b2d9_b.jpg Links done https://farm1.staticflickr.com/821/3...95997e72_b.jpg Links mounted https://farm1.staticflickr.com/829/3...310d8d31_b.jpg Step 9 is putting together the receiver box and putting the servo horn on the shift servo. My friend gave me a HoBao HB-933MG 3Kg Digital servo for the shift servo. I'm assuming this is what comes with the RTR. Looks like a JX PDI-933mg servo rebrand. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/827/3...d4b73aec_b.jpg Step 10 & 11 is mounting the electronics to the radio tray/side rail assembly and having the rock sliders mounted on as well. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/801/2...5eb6bff5_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/871/4...21159dce_b.jpg Steps 12 & 13 is mounting the side rails and shock hoops onto the chassis frame. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/879/3...240f6c61_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/864/2...f792d358_b.jpg Notice how it has rubber grommets in center. I wonder what those will be for. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/860/2...8f03f77b_b.jpg |

As far as well thought out... we'll see. It's clear they did spend the time to put some thought into the kit to try and put out a good product, but this being their first crawler/scaler type vehicle... I can see where they have some inexperience like in the case of the link mounts for the axle... or maybe they have a good reason for it... I don't know. They do score points with me for what seems to be an actual attempt at making a solid truck with good parts. |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Vaterra Ascender starts you right out on the transmission too. I like that they recessed the frame rail mount points for rigidity, but that'd make custom relocation of frame components problematic for anyone inclined to do so. Sure can't say anything in that kit looks fragile! |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build Quote:
Kit feels like a tank so far. |
Re: Soze's HoBao DC1 Kit Build This looks like a cross between an SCX10 II and an HPI Venture. Those links are great. That's how links should be machined with tapers on either side. I'd like to see this, stock, go up against a box stock SCX10 II. The machined frame rails are nice. The only truck I have that has that is the RC4WD TF2. Really nice looking kit. They are expensive though after visiting your eBay link. |

The shocks on this also look great. Hopefully they're as smooth and leak free as they look. I'm also interested to see the axles. So far the chassis is really cool. |
