It's really difficult to find good reference photos for the front underside of the hood so I'm sure I'll have to modify the front contour.
Could've asked, and I would've gone out to the driveway and opened'er up!

No longer have any excuses to get accuracy wrong on scale details. Did a Fly & Drive to NYC over the weekend. Guess this decides color for the model too hehe.

Get to do some pre-planning with the model for my real truck here. My intention was to mount the solar panel on the roof with a hinge so I can adjust the angle and hopefully act as an air damn to get all that drag off the front of the tent at speed. Also needs to be hinged to get access to the Maxtrax boards.

Decided instead of making one out of a simple styrene sheet and a sticker it would be cool to be able to just print a replacement down the road. Took way longer to paint the black cells than I anticipated.

At the very least the proof of concept turned out nicely. Still skeptical if it will make any significant difference in fuel efficiency. See people reporting -5mpg difference with a tent.

Almost done, one more tweak *snap*

2nd attempt, more heat and tighter wrap

Fancy indoor bandsaw

Just need to weld them up and put the bends in the arms

Nice PFB, I'd love to build one of these some day. I do love those modelex bumpers. Any plans to sand/finish the roof rack? Is that possible with 3d printed stuff? I see printed stuff so often in the hobby nowadays, but my ocd does not like the 'lines' effect.

Absolutely, it will be filled/sanded to hide print lines.

In the midst of fitting mine to an scx10 it seems the front wheel wells are an inch larger than the rear. I'm going to cut the plastic bumpers off too I think this looks great.
