Such a great looking VDub TossedMan, thanks for the build. The wheels have some serious pop!

Thanks Smog. It’s slowly getting there. A few more details to work out yet.

So, I've been pondering ways to mount these hubcaps. The wheels have these screw in hubs but trying to get the aluminum hub caps sort of centred has been puzzling. I cut out some disks with holes the right size for the hubs figuring I could glue them in and centre the hubs in the holes. Here's what I came up with. A bit of e6000 and boom!, Robert's your dad's brother. Just need to stick on the VW stickers now. Last edited by Tossedman; 02-01-2020 at 04:28 PM. |

Nice solution, This is gonna be sweet. Its always better not to rush a project IMO. You end up with the time to troubleshoot and perfect things little by little as you go.

Had the mirror brackets printed at Shapeways. Here they are, painted red and on the bug with dirty mirrors. |

Thanks for your awesome VW build threads! You have helped me figure out to get started on my own and I appreciate it! I have looked at your work many times and your attention to detail is inspiring.

Yo, Tossedman - I, for one would really dig more pics of this completed rig. The wheel/tire combo was incredible, the mirrors seriously nifty, and the head-on shot was suitably aggressive, but where's the rest? |

I kind of stalled out on this one. Between driving all summer and fall and getting sidetracked building a trailer, nothing’s happened with this bug. Fear not though, it will get done and pics will be posted.

I'm still trying to figure out a build that will use those black Boom Racing Narrow Steelie wheels and tires - I got a white set of the wheels for my Choodoos, going on my Defender, but I need somethin' else - probably also with portals - to use such small diameter tires as those Mud Terrain Trophys... maybe Capra axles. | |

Thanks Mike. Don’t know how well the whitewalls will hold up. Got a bit more to go on this build. Maybe over the holidays.

Finally did a bit more work on the Sand Scorcher today. Did some painting of engine parts and made a new mount for the engine out back. I had to shorten the rails at the back by 23mm to get the engine where I wanted. Got to raise it up a bit higher as well. I'm going to shorten the front rails as well by 6mm or so to get the body back where it needs to be. That'll allow the wheels to be in the right place and it ought to cover the engine a bit better as well. |

Finally spent a bit of time and have the 3D printer mostly dialled in to print PTEG. Thanks to HumboldtEF for the slider design. Had to modify it somewhat to fit the MST CMX chassis. Just need to test the fit of the body but some dummy left it at work on Friday so that'll wait until tomorrow. Here are the sliders mounted on the chassis. |
